Starting off our mentor program a little early here, but Ready For Life (the Pinellas location anyway) put out a call for anyone ready or willing to be ready to take on the responsibility of being a mentor for a youth that has aged out of the foster care system.
This program is intended to be about forming a relationship with a young person. The goal is to learn about them, their needs and desires, and give them access your life experience as a resource. Many of us have had a parent, friend, an uncle, or perhaps a drill instructor or teacher we could use for information, understanding, or just as a sounding board well into adulthood. These young adults have no-one. That stinks. Let's help fix it.
Pinellas Hack Shack Mentor Program is about providing classes/work groups and events for mentors and their prodigies to attend. We believe that relationships are formed on the run...doing things together. If people are not careful when they do stuff together, they might accidentally learn something. We want to concentrate on providing the cool satisfying activities, knowledgeable instructors, and a capable and safe place to do things in.
Ready For Life Inc. 501(c)3 is on the front line. They work with the population in need first hand. On Thursday, 30 January they are having a mentor orientation. From what I understand, there will (of course) be an orientation on what the mentor program is about, and information on how things go forward from there. Probably things like background checks might be scheduled for anyone wishing to enroll.)
