Lots of Ping Pong! The Round Robin style is just a vehicle/format to ensure a lot of games played. Don't want people standing around just waiting for a table or for someone to play with. That is no fun. So beginners are most welcome and encouraged to play.
(Note: You would need basic ping pong skills to play as round robin is not conducive to learning how to play for your first time) .
Players rated Under 1200 or Unrated Players. This should be fun and competitive. Don't be fooled about "beginners". Those rated[masked] got very good solid games. USATT has a high threshold with average USATT players being around 1800.
Check out video of past meetup
Play/matches starts at 7:30 promptly. Depending on turnout, it could go up to 10 PM. Please come early (around 7) so we can set up grouping/matches and have a bit of time chatting and warming up. There will be LOTS of Ping Pong 'played I promise. I'm usually there by 6:30ish.
There is a dress code ... mainly for shoes and they are strict. No heels! .. and running shoes/tennis shoes are preferred. Please avoid black soled shoes as they make color skid marks on the competition grade flooring of the venue.
Costs are $10, and $1 to rent a paddle if you don't have one. Cold Drinks are available for purchase ($1 for bottled water and soda , $2 for energy drinks/Gatorade and Iced Tea),
Format is as follows. Entrants would be grouped in 3-5 people per group (ideally groups of 4). Top finishers get grouped together in a separate group(1st division) and the 2nd placed finishers gets grouped together for another group (2nd division) and so on. Entrants will be seeded and distributed evenly depending on rating/ability. This would mean 1st set of 3 matches you play would be at varying levels. Matches are first to win 3 (max 5 games). Games go up to 11 points ( not 21 anymore) and each person alternates serves after 2 serves. Next group/set would be more competitive with players all grouped around your level. Expect to play anywhere from 3 to 6 matches. Each group winner wins a prize voucher ( $20 for 1st div, $15 for 2nd division, $10 for 3rd and $5 for 4th division ) good for purchase at club store graciously donated by venue Allen & Son's. It means everyone has a 1 in 4 chance to win! Should you choose to leave early, pls let me know after 1st set of matches.
Besides People from this meetup group, there might be beginners from local club playing so expect anywhere from an additional 2 to 4 players more than what has RSVP'd.
