A beginner's guide to using SQLite with R: database usage for fun and profit

Nick Horton will be giving a beginner's guide to using SQLite with R, in the context of the Data Expo 2009 airline delays dataset (stat-computing.org/dataexpo/2009). This includes 150,000,000 rows corresponding to every commercial flight in the US from 1987 to 2012.  If you haven't used a database with R, and want to learn more, or use this approach commonly in your work, and want to share your thoughts and suggestions for newbies, this is for you.

I enjoyed the opportunity to talk and get feedback on this project. It's great to see such a diversity of interesting applications and use of databases for statistical work in the Valley. Kudos again to Becky for hosting!

Apropos to last night’s excellent presentation that used airline arrival/departure data, a discussion on how to map correlations on Google maps:

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to add some specific directions for getting to the meetup. National Priorities Project is hosting, but we're not meeting in our office. Instead, we'll be in Suite 234-6, a conference room on the second floor of 243 King Street, Northampton (aka Potpourri Plaza, across King Street from the Stop 'n Shop).

Go into the "2nd Floor Entrance." It's the large door facing King street, between Domino's Pizza and the Bikram Yogo studio.

Take the steps or the elevator to the 2nd floor, turn right, and follow the signs to Suite 234-6.

    Look forward to seeing everyone!
