What title would you like: 'Developer' (want to get involved in a startup), 'Entrepreneur' (want to pitch a startup idea), 'Developer/Entrepreneur' (both)?

[Developer Question] What types of tech development do you do? (languages/frameworks used, software for web, mobile, server, etc.)

Been designing and developing software for 25+ years. Right now, I'm consulting to CableLabs, working on a high-throughput server written in Java with a MySQL backend. Last startup was What's Going Round ( https://www.WhatsGoingRound.com , if it's still up), written using Struts2, JSPs, jQuery, Javascript, Java, Hibernate, MySQL on CentOS. Did the majority of the architecture and development. Also have a big history in C++. Have exposure to many other technologies. Background in cable TV, cell phone, video-conferencing, and financial industries. Experience from embedded devices to large servers. I have management experience and knowledge. I know what a cash flow statement is, and why it's so important to a startup. I know how to balance "making it perfect" against "get it delivered so we can get paid".

[Developer Question] What kinds of startups are you interested in? (I ask this question because we may try and focus some meetups on certain types of startups)

Something...different, unique. If you're describing your startup in terms of other startups, it's probably not different enough. No daily deal sites, dating sites, photo sites, etc.. Prefer to partner with people who have done a technology startup before, and probably have raised capital from Angels or VCs. Can be web based, but any software technology-based product startup would work. Must be OK with me working part time until funding so that I can still pay the bills. Sorry, but with 2 kids in college, working full time for sweat equity just ain't in the cards.

[Entrepreneur Question] Are you ready to pitch or will be ready within the next six months?

[Entrepreneur Question] We're looking for people who are ready to pitch a startup idea. Tell us a little bit about your idea and how much work has gone into it. (No need for sensitive details, just looking to get a sense of how developed the idea is)

After talking to a number of startups and seeing an unmet common need, I started working on my own concept: a way to help entrepreneurs interested in building expert systems get to market sooner, and appropriately scale. Interested in finding a partner, someone who has a blend of business and technical knowledge.

Introduction

Working on my next startup, and think the only way to go is with a local team. Startups are too hard to put the pressure of remote founding teams on top of that. This is a much better solution than the sites that are out there.

What Jim C. is saying about this Meetup Group

Excellent concept, serving the need of matching local developers to local projects. Startups are too hard to do to compound the difficulties with geographically dispersed teams.
