Chinese dumpling, or Jiaozi, is a traditional dish eaten on Chinese New Year's Eve, especially in Northern China. The joy of having dumplings not only comes from the wonderful tastes but also starts with the process of making them. It's always a warm and cozy activity when family and friends gather around the table, chatting while making dumplings. If you want to share the joy, come join us for this dumpling party on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, five days before the Chinese New Year's Eve.
Each family/group please bring about 1-2 pounds of dumpling filling. Hopefully different families/groups bring different kinds of filling, so we will have a chance to taste different flavors. I believe our Chinese group members must have their favorite dumpling filling recipes. For members who are new to making dumplings, here's a very helpful website with many good ideas: http://chinesedumplingrecipes.com/chinese-dumplings-recipes, read this first if you are thinking of being creative: http://chinesedumplingrecipes.com/tips-for-making-chinese-dumpling-fillings.html.
I will bring enough flour, and pots for cooking. If you have a rolling pin for making dumpling wrappers, please bring it.
We rented the place for 5 hours (4 - 9) and it costs $115. I would be grateful if each family/group could donate a few dollars toward the rental fee.
Since we will have at least 40 people coming, I was hoping some of you could bring one of the following items besides the dumpling filling:
If you are going to bring any item above, please add a comment to this meetup so other people can choose another item. Also, the 5 hours we have for the room includes setup and cleanup. If possible please come on time and help out.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
Tomorrow it's going to snow. According to the forecast, it's not going to be too bad in Pittsburgh and Murrysville, only 1 -3 inches of snow. Therefore, the meetup will take place as scheduled. However, some areas in Allegheny County might see more snow, so please check the road condition in your area and along the way before you come. If you decide not to attend the meetup we totally understand, but please update the RSVP so I know who is not coming.
