Please join us as we reopen our monthly Pittsburgh Environmentalist 12.0 Green Team get together. This group's mission is "to promote and organize community educational programs and projects with an emphasis on environmentally friendly living." We will meet at the 31st Street Bridge and Smallman Street on the front porch of the 31st Street Loft and hike over the bridge to Herrs Island. NOTE: If you do not feel like walking please meet at Redfin Blues at 7:30. There is ample free parking both at the loft and at Redfin.
This bridge recently reopened and will be renamed the William Raymond Prom Memorial Bridge, after a Vietnam War hero from Millvale. We will take the trail around Herrs Island, also known as Washingtons Landing, turning around on the Iron Bridge at the far end, then head back. I plan on stopping on the way back at the outdoor cafe Redfin Blues for a cold drink, to discuss the mission of the group and get to know one another.
There is free parking available on Smallman Street and also under the 31st Street Bridge. This will be an EASY city hike. There are LOTS of bunnies, birds and wildlife on the island, and chances are we will see some rowers out on the water. The view from the 31st Street Bridge is priceless!
Please share this with your friends and this is a family friendly, dog friendly (on leash please) event.
