Good day all,
This is the follow up to the last PHP Dev Meetup, and the intro the topic for the next Meetup.
The Meetup on July 1 was a resounding success, given that it was the first one.
Besides myself, there were 3 other people in attendance:Jolly
and M J
The topic of the evening was PHP frameworks. I spoke about my experiences with CakePHP, but also extolled the virtues of any PHP framework as a useful tool to organizing ones code, and not reinventing the wheel. Further, a framework with any amount of respectable documentation allows for others to jump in and start contributing to the project much more easily since the core foundation is based upon something well documented, rather than the bunch of of code you've been using for years, but is (almost always) not well documented.
Ben shared with us his personal PHP project, CommuniTeach
-- a Meetup-like site oriented towards creating a community of people who teach each other the things they know to others in their area who want to learn them. Ben is actively looking for PHP developers to help out on the project; if you are interested, please contact him.
Jolly and M J participated in the group discussions and offered their questions and thoughts regarding the topics that came up.Next Meetup
For the next Meetup on August 5, I plan on making the topic of the evening "An Introduction to PHP Security" where we'll talk about Cross site scripting attacks, SQL injection attacks and best practices for avoiding these problems.
As always, if you have any particular code issues or questions, bring your laptop or code printout and we'll help out the best we can.
I look forward to seeing you all next Meetup - August 5
, 6:30pm at Gullifty's Restaurant in Squirrel Hill.
