Please join us for another fun ballroom dance lesson which will be suitable for beginners, with all levels welcome. The doors will open at 6:30 PM so we'll have a bit more time for socializing before the first lesson begins around 7 PM.
After the first 45-minute lesson, people will have the option to continue dancing from 8-10 PM or simply enjoy some great pizza, wine, good conversation, and lots of laughs. And there will even be a second 45-minute class for those that are interested!!
This event was so much fun when we had on April 3, we just had to do it again. So here are some twists for this one:
-- There will be lots of pizza to go along with the wine! But if you're not a pizza/snacks fan for whatever reason, we still think you'll have a fun time (please skip the next two bullets, and read further below)
-- The pizza will be provided by Angelo's Pizzeria in Bloomfield
-- There will also be including vegan and vegetarian pizza options, so there will be a nice variety in addition to the usual favorites. What a great way to enjoy different types of pizza with many different wines.
-- Pittsburgh Dance Center will also be open to song requests -- so please feel free to bring suggestions for your favorite songs for ballroom dances!
-- And you can help decide what the dance lesson should be: foxtrot/swing, rumba/salsa or tango/salsa
-- And if you really enjoy the dance class on May 8, you can also receive a complimentary pass which you could use at your convenience for your next salsa-swing-or ballroom class lesson at Pittsburgh Dance Center. This can be used for any of the $8-10 beginner/mixed level Tuesday or Thursday classes. What a great deal!
While Pittsburgh has a vibrant cultural scene, including classical and contemporary dance, this is our chance to experience being a bit more than spectators while learning more about the art of dance.
With so many people in the Meetup, sometimes it can be challenge meeting/mingling, especially for relatively new members when attending other events, busy art galleries, and performances at large venues such as the Benedum. So perhaps a series of fun events might help to bring lots of people together from the Meetup, which could help with future introductions and finding other members at future events.Since many Meetup events are held at busy venues (e.g., outdoor festivals, art gallery openings, Heinz Hall) this makes spotting people more difficult. Thus, it might be nice to schedule a few events that would be more welcoming to members that haven't been to very many Meetups before.
Unlike a restaurant where people spend most of the time talking with those seated nearby, the 'Dance Lesson, Wine Lesson' will be less formal so people should be able to meet many others while enjoying the group dance lesson and sharing pizza/wine.
While there are other Meetup groups and organizations in the region that are specifically focused on dance, this event is also an opportunity for people to see if they might enjoy taking up dance in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
Because some might be more comfortable bringing a friend for the dance lesson, guests are certainly welcome. So when you RSVP, please indicate if you'll bringing one or more friends.
This event costs only $15/person -- please bring cash at the door -- and is BYOB wine. The $15 includes complimentary snacks and pizza! But if you're not interested in pizza/snacks, please read a little further below.
And to make the wine appreciation session more interesting, please feel free to bring either your favorite bottle of wine -- or something you've never tried before -- which costs less than $12.
For those that live close to the larger state stores, this might be a chance to check out one of the Chairmen's Selection wines.
It would be fantastic if this event included a variety of white and red wines, representing different countries/regions, etc. for the group to try. And if you don't drink, that is certainly OK as this event is about having fun, bringing people together, and learning a little more about ballroom dance.
A thought on pizza/snacks We should respect differing opinions as we all have different tastes in food, but for those who aren't interested in the pizza/snacks for whatever reason (e.g. diet, other dinner plans), please realize that no one is being asked to spend the same amount on whatever wine they decide to bring. So if there are people who don't want any snacks/pizza, maybe to offset this, they can skip bringing wine since I doubt we'll run out. So perhaps $15 for the dance lesson plus complimentary wine would not be considered unreasonable.
Also, please let us know if you have any preferences on the dance lesson -- foxtrot/swing, rumba/salsa or tango/salsa -- as well as wines and pizza toppings. You can share any thoughts and comments by visiting http://www.meetup.com/Pittsburgh-Social-Club/messages/boards/thread/43569192
We hope to see everyone on Thursday!
