Global Beats and The Harp & Fiddle Pub in the Strip District begin celebrating the world's biggest sporting event: La Copa Mundial de F?tbol, aka soccer's World Cup with two days of televised games and live music! This is not an official Meetup gathering, but I'll probably be there Saturday afternoon for the U.S. v. England match, and maybe Friday (with laptop, semi-working) for the 10am Mexico v. South Africa match.
The month-long series of playoffs kicks off this Friday in Johannesburg, marking the first time the World Cup has been played on African soil since its inception in 1930.
Friday's matches: 10 am South Africa v. Mexico (que sigue El Tri!); 2:30 pm Uruguay v. France.

Gatherings at the Harp & Fiddle (24th Street & Penn Avenue in The Strip) begin at 10am both days (because of time difference from South Africa to Pittsburgh) until late in the evening. Live music begins at 5 pm. Check the Harp & Fiddle's website (http://www.harpandfiddle.com/index.html
) for further details.
On Friday, The Tom Bachelor Band performs reggae, calypso and rock. Saturday features world beat band New World Ginga. Ginga is a Brazilian word used primarily to describe the fundamental movement in the martial art of capoeira. In music, it describes the union of musicians and dancers in a soulful, swinging spirit of ecstasy and celebration. New World Ginga samples popular hits with rhythms that meld ska, rock, calypso, samba/reggae, bossa nova and other African-based styles.
