Exploring New Tastes With Flavored Balsamic Vinegars!

What better way to start off 2014 than by learning ways to use the wonderful flavors of balsamic vinegars to liven up our meals this winter?

This meet up will take place at the brand new Olive Tap in Highland Park. The address is above - it's located in downtown Highland Park.

We'll begin with a short presentation on the nutritional benefits of vinegars, will move on to a demo using various flavors, and will end with exploring the many tastes of the vinegars right on the spot - all 20 of them if you wish!

Dr. Esseslstyn would be proud!  Join us for this learning and tasting event.

Also, watch for the announcement for our February Meet Up. It will be a Valentine's Special Pot Luck for Healthy Hearts!

This was the most unique meet up we have had yet. First, it was the second anniversary for Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease Meet up and secondly, because 5 minutes before we were going to start the entire area of the city had a huge black out. We used our cell phones to keep the room (dimly) lit and I parked my car directly outside the front door and turned the lights on. In addition the outside temperature was 2 degrees! Oh what a night - I think there is a song by that name, right? But true to the spirit of the people in this group we carried on, had a short presentation and a lovely evening tasting all flavors of balsamic vinegar on salad, berries and grilled asparagus. The lights (and heat) went back on after about an hour. A big thank you to all who came out and were gracious enough to still find it to be an enriching and fun evening!

I just want to thank Carol for her enlightening presentation on balsamic vinegars. What I love about being plant-based is that I'm always learning something new that will benefit my health. I just poured my white peach balsamic vinegar over my bowl of mixed fruits and oh my! I'm never eating fruit salad again without my balsamic! Can't wait for dinner when I can put another one I bought last night over my greens! Looking forward to the potluck-

It was a fun evening and I'm glad I hung out until the lights came back on so I could buy some balsamics - I was out and in withdrawal! Plus I learned that cell phones can be used as flashlights if you know how to do it!

It was an interesting meeting even without power. Thanks for the informative talk on balsamic vinegar and the delicious salad, fruit salad and grilled asparagus. I look forward to returning to the Olive Tap when I can purchase some items.

I liked the asparagus that you made. You mentioned a pan that you used? What is the name? I might look into buying one for veggies. Did you add anything to them when you were grilling? Thanks.

I used a scan pan, purchased at Sur La Table. It's titanium surface and non stick, no need to add anything to the pan. It's the grill pan with ridges. I sprinkled barely a touch of salt at the end just to draw the extra moisture that sometimes makes asparagus spongy.

Hi Shari - What a night but true to the core, the group toughed it out and eventually the lights did go back on but now for over an hour. I think I'll carry flashlights to future meetings. LOL

I did a longer version of last night as a feedback but now I don't see it anywhere on this page. Can't figure out where it went and might try to recreate it again. If you receive it somehow on your end please let me know. Thanks,,,
