I am mom to a fifth grade son with Autism, and a middle schooler with Asperger's. My goal is to continue to host a social group for us to belong to. I'd love to connect with parents of Special Needs kids and at the same time form a bonded group for our kids to socialize. I'm looking for middle school aged kids ages with various special needs, ages 10-15. Because we are inclusive and have always invited siblings and friends to join our activities, we're staying flexible on the ages, but, most kids coming for our group have been about 5-7th grade. I'd love to continue to provide a forum for parents to network and share parenting info., RECB and Sp. Ed. IEP info., etc. This group has been a tangible goal for my boys to plan for, and they've looked forward to our Meetups. Hopefully, our kids can become more confident by being in a familiar, supportive group, and so, be willing to try new things, (outings to new places, etc.). When our children feel safe and accepted, (& we parents do, also!), growth is bound to occur. Some of us have been together for years now, so, as discussed many times before, I felt our group name was do an update. I have enjoyed getting to know several families through this group. I hope we parents can continue to form friendships with each other & share in our gains and common struggles, and to support each other in a safe and friendly space.
