This will be our third year running the Playtest Zone at the UK Games Expo and we have been given a new space in the Arden Room.

We will be playtesting all day on both Saturday and Sunday.

f you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play. If you sit down to play a game and leave some feedback then you will entered into a prize draw to win £30 gift vouchers from www.boardgameguru.co.uk.

If you would like to bring along a game design, or just help out on the stand, please contact Rob Harris (Organiser).

If anyone would like to add further comments about the prototypes they played at the UK Games Expo 2013, I have created a geeklist at BGG here:

A great expo. Being part of the playtest stuff helped make it my favourite one thus far! Good responses, now for some iteration.

Sufoki was the only other game I was able to playtest but that was loads of fun.

Thanks to Rob, Katarina and all the red-shirted volunteers.

Worth my visit to UK Games Expo. We got some really positive and useful feedback on the games that were being playtested.

What a great Expo. Lots of prototypes and playtests and still time to play games with friends in the evening. (Kakerlaken Poker a favourite this year.) Thank you to Brett, David, Katarina, Lawrence and Matt for all your hard work and for making it a fun experience.

Brilliant time, as always. New venue means that Playtest can grow, just as the Expo has. Hats off to Rob for organising us redshirts!

I've added a good few photos to the album, so do take a look!

If anyone has the Meetups app, images can be snapped with the app and automatically uploaded to the group. The image is also saved to your device. Easy.

Johan: Good tip! Will definitely download and try this! ;)

Has anyone got an up-to-date video camera that they wouldn't mind bringing to Expo to do some filming. I'm hoping we can make a short promotional video for the group while we are there. Cheers, Rob

Yes I've got one - it even has a built in projector to view it back again!

I hope to drag myself away from the trade stall long enough to pop across!

Hi Everyone, I will be quite busy on the Ragnar Brothers Stand (P10) but I'II definitely pop into the Playtest zone and have a game at some point. Looking forward to seeing people!

Hiya! I will be coming to exhibit for the first time at the expo. I would really like to meet others interested in making fun card games or board games. Look forward to it thanks!

    CARPOOL SUGGESTION.

I'll be coming from Essex joining the M25 to A1M and would be happy to offer lifts to up to 3 other Playtesters from London, and just split the petrol. A lot cheaper than the train to Birmingham.
If interested please give me your names and pickup location. Pickups in North or East London would be easier.

Ideally I would like to finalise Carpool at least a few days before leaving.

I have a friend Joe from the other Playtest group coming up on Sat, who's interested in joining the group regularly, but will prob be helping demoing games on another stand. If anyone has suggestions on Accomodation, would be welcome too. Thanks all.

    May 7, 2013

    • Chris T.

I managed to get train tickets for £7.50 each way via Trainline, which was surprising! I expected much more. I'm only coming up on Saturday though. Perhaps it's a special day on Virgin trains...

      May 12, 2013

    • Lawrence

thanks Chris, I'm curious to know if that price is still available. I checked and coudlnt find anything cheaper than £12 each way, at which point car sharing would be much cheaper

      May 19, 2013

  • Lawrence

based on the lack of response to CARPOOL suggestion, I have arranged to take 2 friends to the expo on Sat am and split the cost of accomodation too. I'll be helping Demo Coiled Spring games some point on sat, I'll be with Playtest all day sunday.

    May 19, 2013

  • Lloyd

I'll be at the Expo, so I'll make sure to swing by and say hello to all you fine chaps.

    1 · May 17, 2013

Hi Rob, just realised I hadn't confirmed exactly what I'm planning for games expo play test. It will be shield wall (30min 2 player) and two variants of Dragon Slayer where I will be looking for people to compare back to back. Both short to play (5 to 10min per player) seat 2+.

    1 · May 12, 2013

  • Lawrence

Possibly my friend Joe will not attend Expo now. Hope we can organise something,

    May 10, 2013

  • Dave C.

OK, so this is a bit off topic - but wasn't sure where best to post.
Bookings for Spiel 2013 need to be made by next week (15th May).

I was planning on having a stall - but seeing as UkExpo will be my first foray into publishing/selling I was hoping to see how that went before making a (562 Euro) commitment to be at Essen.

Have other people booked space? Is anyone interested in doing a joint venture to keep costs down? Is there a better place to have these conversations..?!

    Cheers,
    D

    • Rob H.

Hi Dave, it might be better to post this in the discussions area on the tab above. It's a shame that the deadline is just before UKGE, as I'm sure you could have made some good contacts there that would be able to share a stand. Post this in discussions and I'll add some suggestions there. Cheers, Rob

How much is EssenSpiel to exhibit? and is there a deadline for having a product ready?

      May 10, 2013

  • Lawrence

I can be there on Saturday and Sunday or arrive Friday, but woudl like to ccordinate for transport.

    April 24, 2013

  • David M.

    Looking forward to it.

Just for the Sat, it looks like.

    April 23, 2013

  • Dave C.

Sure I can spare a finished Rock, Paper, Scissors BANG! But will be on a stall during the day...

    April 23, 2013

  • Andrew B.

Plan to playtest 'Hold the Front Page' (newspaper game) and 'Art Dealer' (about fine art buying, selling, auctions, and exhibitions).
