London Playtest meetup

The November Meetup will be on Sunday 17th November from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and your game will be added to the list below.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 15th November. Be sure to include the name of the game, the amount of players, the expected duration and a brief description. If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

Amazing as always; I'm particularly happy that I got to see some of the games that have progressed from the last few months.

    Wonderful meetup, Rob!

very much enjoyed the games I played today. First Phil's tower defense type game involving flying saucers attacking earth, ending in disaster but lots of interactive fun.
Then a very exciting Elemental magic fighting game by Harvey and ? (Lawrence Phil Dave Andrew) that we all thought could have benefitted from some snazzy graphics and a 4 player version!

Both Jenny and I really enjoyed this metup. Many thanks to Rob for the excellent organization (once again).

    Great event

Sorry for the even more lat minute notice. I'll be coming today- but not bringing any games.

      Look forward to seeing you.

  • Behrooz S.

Sorry about the last-minute notice. I'll be coming and I'd like to playtest one or 2 games if possible.

Can you do it? - a party game about (often physical) challenges, 10 min, 3-10 players

Area Control - the lightest area control game, 30 min, 3-5 players

I'm more anxious to test the former.

    1 · November 16, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

They are very early prototypes so times are probably wrong and I want to test the general concepts rather than any specifics.

      1 · November 16, 2013

    • Rob H.

Thanks for adding your games. I'm sure we'll find time to playtest them. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Hey Rob, I would like to attend this playtesting session and in fact I have concept game and prototype that I would like to playtest.

The current working title of the game is "Jelly" (bound to change in future). It's a casual match three played on a tablet, although it's a social game where the player can interact with their social network friends, the game itself is single player.

Let me know what you think.
    Thanks

Hi Rob, Still putting in some fixes but I should be able to bring a 30 level configuration deployed on three devices, each level should take no longer than 2 mins to complete, so in theory 3 players 45 mins to an hour. Cheers

      1 · November 16, 2013

    • Rob H.

      Thanks, Llies. List updated

      1 · November 16, 2013

Rob: Unfortunately I can no longer make it on Sunday, so will have to back out. Matt will have Pyramids with him, but Alexandria will have to wait for another time.

    November 16, 2013

    • Rob H.

No problem. I've updated the list. Cheers, Rob

After a very promising meeting at Essen, I've got some changes for Dexikon (deckbuilding spelling game, 3-5 players, 60 minutes) that Eagle and Gryphon have requested :)

Also what I think is a good final candidate for Cursed Temple (3-5 players, 40 minutes). Fingers crossed that this is the last anybody sees of it!

    1 · November 15, 2013

    • Rob H.

Congratulations on the Essen interest; the Gryphon line would make a great home for Dexikon. Cheers, Rob

      November 15, 2013

  • Brett G.

    Hey Rob!

Hope to make it on Sunday. Possible prototypes (neither of which may be ready — but fingers crossed!):

    — Pyramids (new co-design with Matt) — family card game, 3–5p, 30 min.
    — Royal Library of Alexandria (new design) — family strategy tile/card game, 3–5p, 60 min.

Right now, there is no proto and no ruleset for Alexandria(!), but I can hopefully pull enough together for a first test.

    1 · November 15, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. Looking forward to getting a first peek at your new designs. Cheers, Rob

    Hi Rob,
I have a tower defense type game involving flying saucers attacking earth, for 1 to 6 players, I would like to try it out with four

    1 · November 14, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. How long do you think it will take to play with 4? Looking forward to seeing the saucers fly ;)

      November 14, 2013

    • Phil R.

Not altogether sure as I have only played it solo or with one other, but I am thinking about an hour and a half ish

      1 · November 15, 2013

  • Gokce B.

    I'll bring 3D Reversi.

    Abstract strategy game, 2 players.
    Normal version 60-90 mins.
    Mini version 15-30 mins.

    1 · November 14, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. Which version are you most interested in testing this time? Normal or mini versions?

      November 14, 2013

    • Gokce B.

I can do both at the same time if I have more than 2 players. Otherwise normal first, then mini version if sufficient time is left.

      1 · November 15, 2013

  • Rob H.

The provisional games list has been updated. Please note that the pre-registering of game prototypes closes at midnight this Friday. You can still bring more designs on the day, but preference will be given to pre-registered games in the schedule.

For anyone designing NaGaDeMon projects, this is a perfect opportunity to get some feedback.

    Hi Rob,

    I'll bring;

QE. Bidding game, 4 players, 30 mins.
Domino Run. Dexterity, 4 players, 10 mins.
Snapps. Dexterity, 2 or more players, 10 mins.

One slot for all of the above will be enough time.

    Cheers,

    Gavin

    Hi Rob,

I would like to bring 'Zambezi' (race your tugboat down the river, avoiding the rocks and crocs along the way) - A light family-type game for 2-8 players.

I would also like to bring a brand-new dice game (conceived in Essen!) that I would like to try out. For now it will just be called 'The Dice Game'. I do have a couple of potential names for it, but I would appreciate feedback where the name is concerned, so I don't want to prejudice the 'jury' one way or the other!

    Cheers,

    Pete

Games added to the list. For scheduling purpose, how many playtesters do you think you will need for The Dice Game and what do you expect the duration to be?

      November 14, 2013

  • Matthew D.

    Hi Rob,

I will be bringing (as always, in order of preference):

    1. Theme Park (3-5 players, 60 mins) - drafting, theme park building game.
    2. Travellers (2-4 players, 75 mins) - medium weight, action selection eurogame.

    Thanks Rob!

I would like to bring The Eternal Wheel. It's a bit hard to describe, but here goes...

It's a dungeon-crawl with a difference : the difference is that the dungeon fragments into seven planes of existence at random when you enter is. Victory is as much about the shape of reality at the end of the game as it is about how much treasure you amass.

    1 · November 3, 2013

    • Chris K.

Afraid I'll have to scratch that one, it won't be ready in time. Definitely for December though :-) 3 or 5 players, 90 mins.

List updated. Look forward to seeing it in December.

Probably should bring the big 4-5 player Lord of the Realm with board. One 45 min slot and 4-5 players.

Should be able to make it this month, after missing the last two. I have some things I'd like to test out with Hold the Front Page and my Art Dealer prototype is ready for another run.

For HtFP, I'd like to playtest the short game with 5; for Art Dealer, would like to test with 3-4. Both will need full 1.5 h slots.

    1 · November 11, 2013

    • Rob H.

Congratulations on your publishing deal with Mayfair for HtFP. I've added both to the provisional list.

      1 · November 14, 2013

  • Mo H.

Can't make it this month, unfortunately! And I was going to bring my Redesign game (from the UK Games Expo competition) in for a first proper run-out, as well. Boo.

(Is anyone else working on that, by the way?)

    1 · November 11, 2013

Hope the recruitment fair goes well. Looking forward to seeing the new version of Blackjack Attack.

      November 14, 2013

  • Lawrence

i have no idea what I should bring. so many games to choose from.. ;-)

    1 · November 11, 2013

  • Ben

Well, it was Executive Decision, but I'm open to name suggestions that don't involve an 's'...

I would like to have a larger time slot...90 minutes might finish a game, but it's not enough to also have discussion after. Or is this just a matter of doing the third round and going over on time?

    1 · October 21, 2013

    • Chris K.

I found last time in the final round people were quite happy to keep going a bit over the 90 minutes. :)

      1 · November 3, 2013

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. As Chris mentioned, going in the last round might be the solution, but be aware that there are often less playtesters around then. Let me know your preference.

      November 6, 2013

  • Dave C.

OK, so now I've checked my calendar I'm unable to make it this month. Grrr.

    November 2, 2013

    • Rob H.

Shame you can't make it, Dave. Hope to see you at the next one.

      November 6, 2013

  • Filip K.

The first meetup was a good experience and I'm definitely coming again. I will bring TEN THOUSAND THINGS, hopefully, in a more mature version. Details to be updated.

    Getting in early this month:
    T'rain : 4 players, 60 mins. Card collecting, railbuilding/routeplanning, resource collection.
Terrain : 4 players, 20 mins, tile placement game.
Terrine : The game of turning animals into paté, bad pun.
    Cheers,
    D
