London Playtest meetup

The December Meetup will be on Sunday 15th December from 1pm to 8pm.

We are definitely going ahead. The Jugged Hare have confirmed that they don't have any Xmas meals booked that day, so we will have the usual space.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 13th December. Be sure to include the name of the game, the amount of players, the expected duration and a brief description. If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

I was searching for the December geeklist and noticed you've not had time to make one for a few months. Assuming this is because of your busy schedule, would you like some help in making them?

I remember playing my 'Magical Unicorn Deathrace'. A few rules were invented on the fly and Harvey came up with a couple of fantastic ideas to better serve the core dexterity mechanism. Putting two sprues together was brilliant! I'll playtest it a ton with my flatmates now and see what happens.

Watched 'Dice Risk'. I'm sure it'd be harder than I imagine but I still believe you could have been using the dice more aggressively. Looked fun in a silly, light way. Not seen the physical rolling of the dice used that way as a mechanism before.

'Dice Duelling' was similarly fun - ideal for its length. Just need to make sure the sand timer doesn't lock. Although maybe that can be the responsibility of the opponent.

Thanks for the blind playtest of my party game (possibly 'Can you do this?' or 'Ridonkulous'). A few issues came up that I'll eliminate. I'm going to add some more non-physical cards in and see how that goes.

Thanks for your feedback on the games, Bez, particularly the dice duelling game. Your party game was hilarious at the end of the day. I'm hoping to catch up on the geeklists during the holidays, but it would be great to have some help with them in the future. Merry Xmas to you and yours. Cheers, Rob

I have 2 games I'd like to playtest.

One is 'Can you do this?(tentative title) - a party game that requires players to use their body. 15 min? 2-6 players. Preferably 4+. I'd really like to try a 'blind playtest' with folk who haven't played before, to see if I can write an easily-understood rulebook.

The other is a game for the Leisuregames competition. I hope it'll be 60min-ish.

If both can't be played, I'd prefer to test the latter.

I need to head off between 6 and 7 to attend a work function.

I've got a very simple dice game that I would like to try out at the next meetup. It is 2-player and takes about 5-10 minutes to play.

    Hi Rob,

I'll be bringing Samuel Murray-Birnbaum's dexterity game 'Hole of DOOM'. Spinning tops, 4 players, 15 minutes.
From the same designer 'Block Busters'. Dexterity, flicking/blocking game. 2 players, 10 minutes.
Lastly, I'll bring my latest idea which I'm calling 'Thirteen'. Abstract, area control, 4 players, 20 minutes.

One slot for these will be fine.

    Cheers,
    Gavin
P.S. I'm hoping Samuel will be able to attend this event.

    Hi Rob! :)

Time to rejoin the fold! I will be bringing a creation from the mother of the gaming genre - an abstract strategy game! It's called 'Sage', and it should play in 45 mins all told.

OK! So this time I'm bringing Dragon Races. 3-6 players, 60-90 minutes, light-to-mediumweight dragon racing game. The dragons have woken from their slumber and the race is on for them to be first to fetch a dragon egg back to their island nests. How fast your dragons race across the continent depends on what they eat... scrumptious fat cattle or nasty stringy villagers, or crunchy guardsmen that stick in your gullet! What's more, watch out for the knights, wizards and thieves that start to come out of the woodwork trying to get in the way.
