London Playtest weekend meetup

The March Meetup will be on Sunday 16th March from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 14th March. Be sure to include the name of the game, a brief description of the gameplay, the expected duration and the amount of players.

[name] [description] [duration] [amount of players]

If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

As fun as ever, played a trio of games, Chris' The Thing keeps improving each playtest, and the last couple of outings I have been the bad guy...hmmm. A 3D version of a Reversi type game by Gokce was interesting to play and Andy's shoot em up in space was good. I am not just saying that because I won.

    Hey Rob,
sorry - know that I've missed the deadline (had a very hectic week/weekend) but could I please bring along....

"T'Rain", hex based train game, 60 mins, 2-4 players.
"The game with no name", card game, poker and yahtzee flavoured, 3-6 players, 10 mins per round.

If you can fit them in - great.
    See you tomorrow,
    Dave

    Hi Rob,

In addition to the co-design with Brett (Professor Evil and the Castle of Treasures) that he has already mentioned, I will be bringing along:

Castlemania: Light-medium Euro game for 2-4 players, 60-75 minutes. Players are seeking to contribute most to the guilds of Castlemania, employing the castlefolk in the most effective fashion using a unique 'grid' mechanism.

    Hey Rob,

    I’ll be bringing along:

Professor Evil and the Castle of Treasures (co-design with Matt Dunstan): Fun, family co-op game for 2-4 players, 60 minutes. The players take on the role of a team of plucky adventurers trying to rescue some of the world’s precious artefacts from the titular Professor who has — with dastardly cunning! — stashed them around his palatial abode.

Grand Tour: Family strategy route-building game, 2–5 players, 60 minutes (a 5-player game would be super useful, but I shall happily settle for 4!). The players are aristocratic travellers in the early 20th Century embarking on a global ‘Grand Tour’ of cultural sites.

Angkor Thom: Family strategy city-building game, 3-5 players, 60 minutes. The players are charged with rebuilding the ancient city of Angkor Thom following a terrible earthquake. Dig canals, build houses, walls and monuments and contribute most to the glory of the rebuilt city!

    See you on Sunday!
    Brett

    In.

I'll just bring Fustuarium. Plays 3-8. Probably about 20 minutes + 10 per player.
Hidden role/social deduction a la The Resistance (in fact I'm using some of the parts from it), but with more than just arguing and voting going on. Players have to navigate and solve a trapped 'prison' but there are those in the group working against them.

Inspired by (but not based on) The Cube movies.

Disclaimer. This is pretty much alpha version 0.1a. There's a game there but I've not found it yet. Input at this stage will be invaluable towards thinking about how to develop it.

Game added to the list. I really enjoy these early alpha prototypes. Look forward to giving it a try. Cheers, Rob

Will be there with three games from which to choose:

Hold the Front Page (newspaper theme, set collection, worker placment/bidding, 3-5, 1.5 h)

Art Dealer (fine art theme, set collection, action selection, 3-5, 1.5 h)

    Life's A Beach (deckchair theme, tile placement, 3-4, 1 h)

    • Barry

If you're playing Art Dealer again I'll nab a spot if that's okay.

      March 11, 2014

    • Andrew B.

Barry - of course! I'm flattered

      March 11, 2014

  • Gokce B.

    3D abstract strategy game.
    2 players
    10-20 mins

Also I can bring a larger version with 3x3 sides if I can finish it. I expect its gameplay will take around 60 minutes.

Lord of the Realm - Trade Build and Conquer. This new 4 player variant of the game includes a board.
You can choose your starting race and make alliances. You can even play as teams!
In recent plays the 4 player game still lasts no more than 60 minutes!
