London Playtest weekend meetup

The August Meetup will be on Sunday 17th August from 1pm to 8pm.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 15th August. Be sure to include the name of the game, a brief description of the gameplay, the expected duration and the amount of players.

[name] [description] [duration] [amount of players]

If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

Thanks to Rob, Andrew Bond and Ed for giving IaB & SMFGE a go. IaB: some good data about a suitable ratio for normal/communal cards and will be trying a new rule soon. Loads to think about for SMFGE.

Dean's 'Road to Angkor Wat' was a great experience. A worker placement system I'd never seen before. I still love the power that selling cards gives the player. Shame we never finished. Finally played Life's a Beach and it's a clever thing indeed. Hunny Hunters - would be good for families and those wanting something more random than I personally enjoy. All the best with your campaign!

Would 3 other players be interested in a XXXX Space Empire board game called Galactic Armada? You play one of 6 alien races out to Conquer the Galaxy. 1-1.5 hours.

Its quite finished and I played it a lot with my friends here, be nice to see what playtesters think.

      Sounds like fun.

Thanks for Playing. I think the game was fun but more streamlined trade, quicker setup and fewer pieces. Anything else?

Boo, I can't make it now after all. Family situation! Have a great session, everyone.

Will try and bring a prototype, still waiting on bits to be delivered. The Three: Basically a multiplayer version of Wei Qi (Go) with some extra area control elements. 60-90mins, probably.

Damn. No bits arrived today, so no game. I'm still up for some testing, though!

Bit late notice, but I've got loads of bits for prototyping i can bring. What do you need?

Will bring Hold the Front Page, newspaper themed game of set collection and over-bidding worker placement. Would lile to get 3 playtestes to try out a rule variation before the design is finalised. Needs full 1.5 h.

And I would also like to fine tune Life's A Beach before showing to prospective publishers. I need to get the length of the game just right (it runs a little short at the moment!). Tile laying, card management game for 2-4 players. Plays in 45 mins at present, but want to increase to 1 h.

Will also bring one of my best friend's son (Ed Avern) to his first playtest. He will not be bringing a design of his own this time - maybe in future, if we are nice to him ;-)

I'll be bringing The Heist in two flavours - hard core and light strategy mode. At a design dilemma so some feedback would be great

"Age of Aliens", worker placement and area control victory point-based game, 1-1.5 hours, 2-3 players

"Fussy Diner" (will definitely renamed :D), Action point-based cooking game, 15mins per player, 2-4 players

    Cheers Rob!

    Hi,

I'll be bringing along "Road to Angkor", a deck building/worker placement hybrid where players compete to build the various bits of pieces of Angkor Wat as a 3D model.

Plays in about an hour, up to 4 people.

The discard rule is the same. In fact, I've made the coppers worth 1, so you can always discard money to get more money. It certainly helps to keep the deck lean. Scoring is still a bit of an issue. Towards the end of the game, it can be obvious who is going to win, which makes it a bit of an anticlimax. My plan is to come up with some hidden scoring or end of game scoring to spice things up. The main change is the addition of a little town map to move your meeples along, rather than the shared central cards. Thanks for the feedback - always appreciated!
