London Playtest weekend meetup

The October Meetup will be on Sunday 12th October from 1pm to 8pm.

Please note that this meeting is on the 2nd Sunday this month to avoid clashing with Essen Spiel 2014.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 10th October. Be sure to include the name of the game, a brief description of the gameplay, the expected duration and the amount of players.

[name] [description] [duration] [amount of players]

If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at www.playtest.co.uk

We also have a guild page on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1398

Wow what a great Essen 2014! Was brilliant to see a number of Playtesters at the event :-) Age of Soccer is now officially into the Bavarian Games library, was video interviewed on Boardgamegeek and made it top the top 10 list on BGG buzz from Essen as well as securing German distribution! Utterly crazy and surreal.

I want to thank you all for your support. Without such a fantastic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable Playtest community we really couldn't have done this. Looking forwards to seeing you all at the next and always great Playtest weekend

We are at Essen with Age of Soccer - hall 4 a102. If anyone is heading down, come by and say hi. You can't miss the stand - look for the epic posters ;-)

Great session - the new combat system for Rus works a treat (thanks for pushing me on this Ben), and even Bez liked the game! One day, Bez, I'll get to play In a Bind, it looks like a real blast.

Ben's co-op game was fun and will be even better when he's got the graphic design elements sorted.

Gokce's app has potential, but would need something more to completely hook me. And I may have found another blind playtest group with Lawrence, so that's a definite result!

Thanks as ever for organising it all Rob.

Good luck in Essen to all who are going. See you on the other side.

Again, thanks to everyone for helping test the expansions for In a Bind. Ragnarok was an interesting team game. Could probably use a lot of development but this iteration seems well balanced and provided a close finish.

QE was a crazy auction game! Another genius idea from Gavin. You really need to get into everyone's head. Could probably enjoy this for many more hours.

Rus, though not the sort of game I'd usually play, is clearly well balanced and though I didn't get to plumb the depths, there's clearly a lot there. The asymmetric starts mean that I could actually see myself enjoying it a few times given the 90-minute playtime for 2nd-time players.

Dave's colour/number bluffing game also should be mentioned. 30 seconds of fun!

All the best to everyone going to Essen!

Best of luck to everyone going to Essen. A huge thanks to Rob, who continues to put up with all of our shenanigans.

Small but perfectly formed this month. Great to get all 3 games tested - thanks to all those who played them.

Hey guys great meet-up as always. Really interesting games on show today.

I'll bring a couple of interesting new card games. One is a space themed abstract deduction game. 4 players 15-30mins. The other is a family orientated game featuring a hungry goat. 4 players 15-30mins

    2 · October 9, 2014

    • Behrooz S.

That was the space-themed one. :-)

I just realised that I have the distinction of winning the first ever match! :-D

      October 10, 2014

    • Albert M.

A hungry goat... I am interested. XD

      1 · October 11, 2014

  • Henry B.

This is the first time I'd be coming so, if anyone needs an extra player, let me know. Won't be be bringing my game just yet so free all afternoon.

    3 · October 9, 2014

    • Henry B.

I haven't even play-tested it yet, hence the trepidation :)

      October 10, 2014

    • Albert M.

Welcome! It is always nice to have more people to join this group. Need not to worry about bring new games every single time. Look forward to seeing you there.

Hoping to make it with Dexikon (deck-building spelling game, 2-4 players, 50 minutes) but I may have used up all my husband points on the trip to Essen...

  • Ed A.

Hi. Unfortunately something's come up and I won't be able to make it on Sunday. Hopefully should be there in November though.

Combined slot for The Con (3 minute co-op) and Epic (45 minute hand-builder), loosely based on the standard fantasy novel "how to build an adventuring group"

    3 · October 8, 2014

    • Michael P.

Ah Ben I was hoping we would both have games called The Heist ... Along with numerous others with the same name. I've also changed my prototypes name, it's currently called criminal-magic-assain-healer-lootathon (catchy I know)

      1 · October 10, 2014

    • Ben

Ah, same number, 3 or 4 depending on if I'm playing.

      October 10, 2014

  • Albert M.

Hey guys, I will be bringing

Ragnarok, team base arena game with fantasy theme, 2-8players (even number), 1-1.5hrs. I really want to have a 6-player game (if possible).

Fussy Diner (WT), Action points and victory points mechanics, 2-4players.

Hi Just want to bring Space Armada, a 2-4 player game i made ages ago and havent played in a while. Would love to see what ppl think.

PvP 2, 3 or 4 players. Fleet space battles. Quite simple. 15- 30 minutes. ample dice and explosions.

Added to the list. Look forward to seeing you there. Cheers, Rob

  • Behrooz S.

I really want to get as many players as possible for a "fast & furious" test of In A Bind, with tweaked expansions cards/ratios. 10-15 minutes. 5-25 players. Is it too disruptive to suggest a quick test that's not part of an actual round?

    2 · October 9, 2014

    • Rob H.

A quick fire session could be a possibility. Look forward to seeing how it will work with a lot more players. Cheers, Rob

      1 · October 10, 2014

    • Behrooz S.

Thanks for enthusiasm/permission respectively. :-) I've only actually seen in played with 12 before, so as well as testing my new ratios of expansion cards, this would 'stress test' for playercount.

      October 10, 2014

  • gavin

    I'll bring...
'QE'. 4 players. Auction. 45 mins.
JamSumo. 4 players. Flicking 30 mins.

    2 · October 8, 2014

    • gavin

Hey Bez, it's good to be back. JamSumo is dice flicking, nothing to do with Hole of DOOM!!!

      1 · October 9, 2014

    • Rob H.

It will be good to see you, Gavin. I'll start limbering up my flicking finger. Cheers, Rob

      October 10, 2014

  • Mike I.

I'll bring Rus, with a completely revised combat system based on my convo with Ben.
I'd also like to put Gumshoe on the table: 2-9 players, c.45 mins, compete to get your ending in a hard-boiled detective novel in the style of Raymond Chandler.

    2 · October 7, 2014

    • Rob H.

Both games added to the list. Gumshoe sounds like fun. Cheers, Rob

      October 10, 2014

  • Ed A.

If possible I'd like to bring back Consensus, having tried to fix the problems from the first version of the game. Presumably this will have led to new problems, which I'm excited to find out about!

Consensus: card game with hidden objectives and a voting mechanic. Roughly 40 minutes play-time. 3-6 players.

    2 · October 6, 2014

    • Rob H.

Added to the list. Look forward to seeing how it has developed. Cheers, Rob

    Hey, hey.

First Among Equals, 3+ players, semi-cooperative dice game with poker elements, 30m

    Thanks!

Good point, Dean. I think I'll move it to the weekend before, in case anyone needs any last minute playtesting before pitching at the convention. Cheers, Rob
