London Playtest weekend meetup

The December Meetup will be on Sunday 14th December from 1pm to 8pm.

Please note that this meeting is on the 2nd Sunday this month to avoid clashing with Christmas.

If you've designed a game, bring it along and give it a play or just enjoy playing other people's prototypes in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.

If you would like to bring along a new design, contact Rob Harris (Organiser) and we will add your game to the list.

Deadline for pre-registering games is 11:59pm on Friday 12th December. Be sure to include the name of the game, a brief description of the gameplay, the expected duration and the amount of players.

[name] [description] [duration] [amount of players]

If you bring more than one design, add a preference for which one you would like to show first. Please feel free to still bring extra prototypes on the day. They will be added to later playtesting rounds.

(Please note that as a condition of our use of the Jugged Hare, only food and drink bought at the pub can be consumed on the premises.)

You can follow the group's blog at

We also have a guild page on BGG:

Only a few of us, but still very useful. Thanks to Dave, Bez and Gavin for testing Greasy Spoon. I very much enjoyed Magna Carta and Make Hay.

I think you misremember. :-p I've yet to play with your Greasy Spoon.

Make Hay: light chaotic fun. Bribery game: just needs balance. My game: thanks for feedback, David B, David C and Gavin. Amazing how turning a victory condition into a loss improved the game so much.

Magna Carta: A tired final playtest. But I hope you got some useful feedback or data.

    Another great event.
Thanks to Dave, Rob and Bez for their great input on Make Hay, I'm looking forward to making the changes suggested.
Thanks to Ed and Andy for playing Fog of War. No changes suggested on this one .
Dave's customer serving cafe game was great fun. Not much to tweak here I feel, a bit more toast and a few less chips. Bonus point for Dave for his festive hat.
Bez's game of 3 interacting boards had a elegant move choice map which resulted in complex repercussions. Clever use of components and was better 2nd time round with elimination element.

Great to be back amongst the land of the living

I'll bring Greasy Spoon (2-4, 30 mins, ingredient placement game) and G.A.M.E. (Generic Asteroid Mining Endeavours) (2-4, 90 mins+, medium weight game of flying round the asteroid belt mining asteroids and completing contracts).

If only there was more time I would have a festive offering, "Elves on Shelves" a co-design with a couple of 9 year old girls (my daughter and her friend) where you are rushing around Santa's workshop delivering the right parcels to the right places as quickly as possible.. I'll make sure it's ready for next Christmas playtest...

Hi. I'm actually going to try and come this time, bringing 'Consensus'.
3-5 players, estimated play time 45 minutes.
Card game with secret objectives, mathematics and corrupt democracy.
Still in the early stages and has had a lot of adjustments since last time, so timings could be wrong.

Probably can't make it this week. If I do, it'll be later in the afternoon. Have fun all.

Is the theme of 'Make Hay' still about a driving test?

      December 9, 2014

    • gavin

      Hi Bez,
The 'driving test' theme is on the drawing board. 'Make Hay' has emerged out of the remnants of last months Playtest. It's about harvesting Hay and it's got cute little combine harvesters.

I'll be bringing along my redesign competition entry for what will possibly be the final playtest. Though the rules were only just solidified yesterday... Eeek!

SMFG3 - moving tokens to move tokens to move tokens to score - 30-50min - 3-4p

Players move player tokens, which effect the movement of a gnome token on a separate board, which effects the movement of smaller gnome tokens on a smaller board. It's a game about positions and movement and it still might change before Sunday depending on solo testing.

Hi there, as there were only five of last night I didn't bother with my 'Battle' game (and one day I'll think of a better name for it). I shall however bring it along on recap; warrior placement game, death, destruction, murder and mayhem. blood everywhere! Its a two player game so I can manage with one play tester or two play testers and I'll sit and watch.

Woker placement, crossed with battle? Sounds good! I like the term 'warrior placement'. :-)

Okay, it's now called Vistas, and has the tag line, "Hasta les Vistas!", and it's a card game of creating beautiful Vistas. 3-5 players around half an hour. I'd like to try a couple of variants for the mechanics, if possible.
