Summer Hike to the Ocean

Join this challenging natural history hike to visit a more remote part of the national seashore. David will interpret the varied habitats as we travel from the San Andreas Rift Zone Valley near Five Brooks Pond and ascend through the lush old growth forest of Douglas Fir to the Inverness Ridge. From the ridge where Pacific Wrens and several warbler species call out we will descend down through a coastal scrub habitat to our ultimate destination, Alamere Falls. Even at low water this is one of he more dramatic landscapes at Point Reyes. Depending on the tide level we will walk on the beach before taking a different trail back. This hike is designed for enthusiastic hikers who want to learn more about the area’s geology, flora and fauna. The hike will cover about 14 miles with a cumulative 2500 feet of elevation gain. We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
