Hi Political Animals -
Our next meeting will be on a topic Andrew suggested a while ago - I hope those who signed up back then can still attend.
This meetup will be light in terms of reading - I will link to a few articles on Philip Blond (Red Tory) and Maurice Glasman (Blue Labour) or upload them under the "Files" section.
See below for an appetiser. Otherwise, just come armed with your opinions on the framework for political discussion in the UK and other places, the "neoliberal consensus", what the difference is between a "Red Tory" and a "One Nation Conservative", etc.

Looking forward to seeing you there -

Our culture dictates that party's will draw together and become indistinguishable. The media is the message and all that. The days of serious political polemic in the mainstream are long gone. For instance; The NOTW hacking srory should be about whether Coulson et al hacked Gordon Browns comunications during the election and after during negotiations with Clegg., No one mentions it, it is non-story
Interesting article in the current LRB on Glasman and Blue Labour

I have added a couple of articles on Glasman and Blond under the Files section for the next meetup - enjoy.
Andrew, that was a great article. Very informative critique of Glasman's ideas.
Worth reading alongside this Prospect article on both Red Tory and Blue Labour:

Topical issue. Relates to how elections are fought on the centre ground in order to capture marginal voters. Arguably, aspects of 'Blue Labour' resonate with Labour voters who have some socially conservative views. 'Red Tory' relates to the socially liberal views of David Cameron's 'Notting Hill set'.
