Minnesota is home to extensive silica sand deposits, especially along the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers. Some of these deposits are located at or near the surface in Washington County. Frac sand mining is a complex and contentious issue. Brief presentations by our guests will be followed by audience Q&A moderated by journalist and former WCCO TV anchorman, Don Shelby.  Special guests include:• Fred Harding, member of Maiden Rock (Wisconsin) Concerned Citizens • Bill Spitzer, Mayor of St. Charles, MN • Tom Landwehr, Commissioner, MN DNR • Representative Peter Fischer, District 43A, Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee  • Dennis Egan, Executive Director, Minnesota Industrial Sand Council Parking is limited – carpooling is strongly recommended. This event is free and open to the public.  Co-sponsors include the League of Women Voters, White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church Climate Change Committee,

Great, well attended meeting. Format was a little restrictive but still a lot of good info was covered. Most importantly that it will be LOCAL COUNCILS that oversee/approve permits....many of which are unprepared to regulate such important environmental and community significant issues.

I was there, but came early. Saw the group, but liked where I ws sitting and your spot was filled anyway. I enjoyed this discussion and learned a lot about Frac Sand mining.

If anyone is going from Northeast Minneapolis and would be willing to take a passenger, please let me know. That's the only way I could go.

It does look like Roma is the closest http://www.roman-market.com/ We could meet there at 4:30? What do you all think?

Roma would work great. I can't be there until 5 or so.

I meant Donatelli's. Spell check messed it up. Roman Market is closer to the church and is very good.

Roma or Donatello's are good possibilities.

I have been on the planning side of this venue, so I will be getting to this event very early and will not be able to join you for dinner before. Am hoping that I will be able to meet /greet you and also join you all in future events.
