Round 2: Swift and Rakudo

  • Jul 1, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Optoro Chinatown

Welcome! Two new languages this month, Apple's brand new Swift and language of mystery, Rakudo.

Brad Herrup and Sean Marcia - Swift

How has apple been able to keep iOS development fresh and relevant? They convince their masses to use a brand new language that should appeal to ALL the programmers. Come learn about the basics of swift,  design decisions, paradigm choices and how it all interops with everything that has come before it.

Brock WilcoxRakudo

This talk will be a brief introduction to Rakudo -- a fringe dynamic language adopting features from Ruby, Perl, Lisp, Haskell, and APL/J (among others). We'll go over a few of the normal, the fancy, and the ... er ... 'experimental' aspects of this language.

We're just getting started so we're looking for people to speak. It's ok if you've never spoken before or if you've spoken hundreds of times, we want to hear from you!

We're looking for talks about anything interesting to programmers, come share about your favorite language or framework, or learn something new and talk about how it went! We're hoping for talks  about anything but here are a few things members have mentioned wanting to learn about recently: Go, C, C++, Haskell, Erlang, and Elixir.
