"Destinies Collide" in a new Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Game!

-- Days, maybe weeks have passed. You aren't sure. What you are sure of is that you are never getting out of here without a plan. How could these tiny disgusting creatures overpower your caravan. It was supposed to be an easy job, easy money. Escort the caravan to Kingston. Now you are little more than a slave to be poked and prodded with those sharp little sticks. Time is blending together. Sleep deprivation does that to people, or so you have heard. You have never really gone for lack of sleep... Those were the days. "Adventure"? It's starting to sound more like "Trouble". But this is what you signed up for. It is your duty to get out of here, and help those traveling with you to escape... or those who are still alive anyway. It looks like other caravans have been ransacked as well. Others are trickling in. Maybe you can work together to get out of here... or maybe not. Only one way to find out. --

"When Destinies Collide" is a starting lvl 1 campaign. I like to move fast and keep things interesting so you can expect to lvl-up at least once per session. This is an intro campaign into my Dragon Campaign "Aryte Shafaer Darastrix" which is Draconic for "War on Dragons". If everyone is still interested by the time we hit lvl 10 we can transition into that campaign for prolonged enjoyment :-D

It will not take long for everyone to make lvl 1 characters, so I hope to jump right in to the action. I can support really any number of players expecting that not everyone will make it every week. I'm hoping that by the time we transition into "Aryte Shafaer Darastrix" we have a clear core group so I can think about encounters accordingly. It would be nice if you would think about what kind of lvl 1 character you would like to make and shoot me a mssg with details. If you need help, or inspiration let me know.

Thanks for giving me the chance to share one of my adventures with you. Hope to see you soon.

FYI. I don't like class skills and the cross class skill rule. I feel like as long as you can practice any skill you can put points in it. If you wanna be able to pickpocket as a fighter. Go for it. But keep in mind you will have to practice your skills in game in order to put further points in it.

Not sure your comment makes sense to me. Kinda like CoC, when you use a skill you put a mark next to it saying that you have been practicing, then when you lvl you can put points in it.

yup, you answered my questions at the game. you're simply adopting the CoC skills philosophy as opposed to the D&D philosophy. works for me.

That was great. I had a good time and felt like Devon kept everyone involved with what was going on and was a very good DM. Thanks Devon.

Ron: Ill get back to you on the unearthed arcana rules. To be honest I haven't read it. I have the PDF so ill try and read it before sat. From what I looked over so far it seems cool, especially the environmental races. I'm not digging the elemental races though. The traits and flaws seem alittle complicated and I've never delt with them before so I'm leaning toward no just for ease.

Regarding race selection: if you have never played before, stick to a basic race found on page 12 of the PHB (player hand book). If you want something more "interesting," I won't hold you back too much, but if you want to play something weird please clear it with me first. Class: if you are new, stick with a class from the PHB starting on page 21. Other classes, found in other books, can be picked, but once again clear it with me first please.

In regards to alignment: please stick to good or neutral, no evil please. This is for ease of play.

Equipment: None. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

    Happy Building :-D

For example: I am building a half Orc barbarian, so I would want a high strength. I'll aim for 18, a sufficiently high stat. I am going to first buy my str score up to 14 using 6 of my 32 points. Then I want to push it to 16. Which is 2 away, but now that my ability is at 14 it will take 2 points for every additional increase. So that is another 4 points. So it took me 10 of my 32 to get to 16. It would take an additional 4 to push for 18, but remember I am a half Orc, they get a +2 to str. So I will not have to waste the points. I am there, and now I have 22 points to distribute among my other abilities :-)

    July 17, 2013

  • Devon R.

If you have never used the point buy system I will go ahead and give an explanation: All of your attributes/ability scores (str/dex/con/int/wis/cha) start at 8. You now have 32 points to distribute among them. For ability scores of 14 or lower, you buy points on a 1-for-1 basis. For ability scores above 14, it costs 2-for-1. Keep in mind that your racial ability modifiers are applied AFTER you have distributed your points.

    July 17, 2013

  • Devon R.

Everyone: If you want to start working on your character before sat you can, but if you do, I will need to look over it before we begin play. We are making lvl 1 characters using the point buy system found on page 169 of the DMG (dungeon masters guide). We are doing a high-powered campaign which means you will have 32 points to distribute among your attributes; I will explain more about the point buy system below.

    July 17, 2013

  • jim

What were the base attribute values and point allotment? You mentioned something like base 12 and 14 points to allocate.

Additionally, There was a level like, 16, in which attributes required 2 allotment points.

When do race mods kick in, before or after point allotment allocation?

Looking forward to seeing you fine folk.

So, what source books can we use? are we using traits and flaws? unearthed arcana rules for leveling? race restrictions?

Are you guys open to a visiting player? Some of may have met, but the last time I played with a group at PT was last summer. I'm not sure this group overlaps much with that one.
