Chapter 4, "When Destinies Collide" D&D 3.5

-- Spear rock has fallen! The Gobliniods that had once inhabited spear rock are carrion food, and the map that has the locations of more evil invaders is in your possession.

It was a long drawn out battle, but in the end you were victorious, or at least as victorious as you can be with blood on your hands. The party split into two groups. One, an "infiltration" team, and the second, a "distraction." After the balista took out a building and the Goblinoids came flooding out to meet them, the "distraction" held its ground, becoming a "strike" team. The "infiltration" team ended up doing more "striking" as well as the enemy leader joined the battle and almost killed two party members.

In the end, both teams were successful thanks to some divine intervention and some good old fashioned luck.

Once the battle had ended the party seemed to be no closer to fulfilling its primary mission: "Find out who is rallying the Goblinoids against Kingston." That is until Jaynor, the stereotypical evil villain, couldn't help revealing himself.

"You may have destroyed one tribe, but that means nothing to our plans. There will always be more stupid creatures to take up arms against you. Good luck *Brave* Adventurers" he said and then flew away with his black dire flying squirrel right behind.

After gathering ALL the treasure, thanks to your new chest, you made your way back to Kingston with your prisoner and two recovered slaves, only to find an official notice as you enter the city.

"A Royal Fall Wedding" a week from now. All are invited.

Jaynor? An evil villian? Who would have guessed? Could the "our" in his departing words refer to himself and his squirrel, or is there someone else involved? Is it fall already? Who wants to go to a wedding?? Only one way to find out...--

------------------------------------------------------

*Boom* *Crash* *Clang* *Bang* Destruction and carnage! Congrats on defeating the Bugbear leader and uncovering another piece of the puzzle.

You are all lvl 4 now, yes even you Martin, and you all received a share of gold and gems for your trouble. Everyone receives 3500 gold after selling everything. If you want to keep gems, let me know and I will let you know what gems you have and how much gold you actually have, but I expect everyone will sell them for the gold.

It looks like we have some time before the next game. Everyone think about what you want to do over the next week in game before the wedding, and just read up on your class and familiarize yourself with your abilities up to lvl 4.

If you have any comments or questions; maybe on how to lvl up, what kind of items you should be getting, which feats to take (those of you without feats....), what attribute to increase (lvl 4), etc. I would love to hear them. See you in Chapter 4!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Notes:

1. Don't forget, all magic items are marked up 20% from the listed price because Draxius is the only way to get them....

2. Please let me know what you would like to buy, and I will let you know if there are any complications. There wont be in most cases, I just want to stay up to date on your items.

3. If you want to gather information while in the city, roll a Gather information check and let me know your result.

- The Barbarian shares some information with the group: The Tribe of the Bow is a rival tribe in the great expanse. They are a tribe of Gnolls known for their finesse with bows. They have settled at the base of a Large rock formation, which they use to keep an eye on the surrounding flat landscape. They are clever creatures and wont be defeated easily if that is your mission.

4. The castle is still open to you, Edward would be happy to have you as guests again.

5. On your way back to Kingston you play with the chest and find out that it is just a compartmentalized chest of holding, nothing more. Which means, the chest has predetermined things inside, and the only way to get them out is to already know what is inside, or make a good guess. It is not a fun box full of everything you could ever want, sorry to disappoint :-P

---------------------------------------------------------------------

*The Royal Wedding*

On the day of the wedding the city is covered in golden streamers and there is a nice crisp feeling to the air. Fall is upon us. Everyone is invited to the castle to attend. Unfortunatley the castle isnt large enough for everyone to enter, so the masses line the streets, waiting for the king and their new queen to ride though the city.

Your group, known to be Edwards friends, and considering the small reputation you have earned within the city, is invited into the castle to watch the ceremony. Within the castle, the courtyard and the throne room have been decorated beautifully. Long benches have been made from huge fallen trees and globes of light hang in the air. Golden streamers and white flowers of every shape and size fill the space and whimsical music plays in the background setting the mood for the great day.

The head cleric of The Great Devon "Hey'sus" waits by the thrones to officiate the ceremony and King Leapold IV stands anxiously beside him for it to begin. The music shifts and the crowd goes silent. The beautiful Elenore appears wearing a marvelous gold and white dress. The dress reflects the light from the globes and the effect is brilliant. Excited whispers go through the crowd as she walks toward her king. Blushing, she walks slowly at first, but then faster as an unmistakable happiness and determination come over her. As she reaches the king, she reaches out, and he gently takes her hands in his.

Hey'sus begins by giving praise to The Great Devon, then turns to the couple and smiles warmly. The ceremony doesnt take long, and soon the new King and Queen are sitting on their respective thrones, extravagant crowns placed on their resplendent heads. Everyone cheers, and the king and queen rise. Prince Edward, seeming to have grown much in the last 6 weeks, takes a few steps forward as they begin to walk hand in hand down the steps. She reaches an outstreched hand toward him and he kisses it and bows.

The king and queen happily walk though the crowd, accepting many congradulations, and once outside the castle they get into an elegant carriage and ride though the city, the king happy to share his new bride with the world and she seemingly content to be by his side.

I hope everyone reads this before the game :-D

Was there some 'chatter' about doing a different game with a sorta Halloween-ish theme in the background sometime in late October?

It would be a rare opportunity to wear my Squirrel Suit.

I have Lord of the Rings Risk. Just an idea. Also Ron can you still get me a $10 bag of un popped pop corn from the scouts.

    Thanks

    Hey Matthew
We missed your good company last night. I think I heard, Oct 5, two weeks. It was a good night but a pterodactyl ate my giant cross bow....it's in the shop. It can be fixed but those teeth marks won't ever come out.

What book were you suggesting I use to determine what feats I want, Devon? Also if I ask the chest for talismans (like pendents of any kind and such) are there any? Just curious.

    September 4, 2013

    • Devon R.

      Sure. NP

"It is not a fun box full of everything you could ever want" Yet it is... in that it's full of possibilities! Since we don't know what's in there we'll not get it out unless we ask for it. Do we have any idea how many compartments it has after we tinker? I will sing a song to inspire confidence (+2 skill check) while anyone looks at or plays with the chest.

    "c-c-c-c-c-cure for m-m-m-m-m-my s-s-s-s-s-studder *open*"

Sorry, nothing. Although, I bet if you started following the great Devon, he could do something about it.

Heyo, all. Unfortunately, I'll be out this weekend, so you'll have to look to the cleric, the sorcerer, and the squirrel-herder for all your flaming, battlefield control magic-ky goodness. :(

I'll be free the 28th, then 10/12, 10/26, then onward into the fall.

Devon, if you want to NPC Theriol in my absence, please feel free. I'll be happy to send an updated copy of his character sheet.

Matthew: We will miss you and your character. Hope to see you next time.

      September 16, 2013

    • Devon R.

Jim: You would indeed get 2 disarm attempts, but I agree with Matt, I wouldn't do it without the feat.

Sorry guys! I've been really busy entertaining my parents. They came up from Florida. We had a lot of fun and saw lots of cool stuff. The problem is, that means I haven't had much time to put into the game. Ill be working on it all this week, and will be getting back to all of you. Thanks for your patience.

    September 16, 2013

  • jim

Hey Debbie...I tried to empty the chest of all kinds of 'cool stuff for a two handed fighter' with no luck....how'd you do?

    September 15, 2013

    • Debbie

Tried to ask for a few things but have not heard back from Devon about them yet.

    Gonna miss you Matthew.

LOL by "long drawn out battle" you mean it took all of 90 seconds right? hehe Can I take 20 on my gather information roll? If so, I "roll" a 28 before I level up. Also, if appropriate, I'll use bardic knowledge or other knowledge skills. Finally, to each of the characters I add an additional 5GP of loot.

Gnorbitt says, "A-a-a-a-p-p-p-ppparently, when their life insurance p-p-p-p-policies were p-p-p-p-p-paid out we were the sole beneficiaries! Actually, it was just spare change I found in their p-p-p-p-pockets while l-l-l-l-l-ooking for intel." *shrug*

What symbol did these goblins wear? or during our pilfering didn't we notice?

I'd also like to spend some time with the new pretty chest and see what secrets it may hold. I do love to tinker. Perhaps I can talk the rogue into taking a look at it as well. We do have some time travelling. Let's see... "l-l-l-l-lich? *open* hmm.. p-p-p-p-potions? *open* vorpal sword? *open*"

    Thanks Devon.
