I'm a recent college grad who just moved back to Maine. I grew up in Topsham, went to high school in Portland, and I have been writing since I was twelve or thirteen. I would love to find encouragement to write more, and workshopping to improve!
I mostly write fiction, but I love writing historical fiction as well. Poetry and personal nonfiction (creative essay kind of things) are genres I have less experience with, but love just as much.
I just finished the Shining, which I had seen, but never read. Such an incredible book. Before that, I'd read and loved Gentlemen of the Road, by Michael Chabon - he is one of my favorites. I'm also dying to get my hands on Chabon's new book, but also Junot Diaz's new book - This Is How You Lose Her. Oscar Wao blew my mind.
I love the idea of getting together as a way to encourage MORE writing, since actually getting yourself to sit down and do it can be so hard. I would also be interested in workshopping, since I know there is no way I can improve without having my work read!
