Meetup at Encore Audio/Video

Per my recent message, Encore is hosting this meet up for our group, and will bring in industry reps to talk and answer questions about the latest topics.  See below for a summary of topics.  Encore will also present their own specialties. They are making a big effort on our behalf, and I'd like to encourage everyone to give this priority.  Please come, and feel free to bring friends whether or not they belong to the meetup group.  Hope to see you there.

Presenter: Thomas Knudesen, Product Manager @ Dali Loudspeakers.  Presentation of speaker design.  Advances in speaker technology (big sound with small footprint).  The direction of the speaker industry from a manufacturer's standpoint.  Product demonstrations.
Presenter: Matthew Silberstein, National Sales Manager @ The Sound Organization (Naim Audio, PMC, Rega, Dali Loudspeakers, The Chord, Company, Quadraspire).  Presentation of how to optimally rip music.  Comparison of digital music file formats and resolutions.  How to integrate a computer into a Hi-Fi system, and how to distribute digital music throughout a home.  Product demonstrations.  Recap of his recent time spent with some of the world's most renowned music producers and their perspective on digital music.

The small bookshelf speakers that they demo'd were the Dali Menuet, retail is about $1500. Interesting Silverline also has a speaker named the Minuet.
Nice meeting and since I am not that into computer based audio I found the demo comparing the different formats very interesting. Also found the presentation by the Dali rep interesting and would have liked to hear at few tunes first on the $500 monitors they played at the end, then the Menuet monitors then the Epicons. Nice speakers all.

An enjoyable session, though the heavy traffic noise and choice of multitracked music made it hard for me to get much real impression of the sound. Despite that, I thought that on some vocals, the Epicons sounded clear and open, yet not sizzly or etched -- and that's a good combination. If Robert Greene (who is a talented violinist and professional mathematician, as well as audio reviewer) liked them, that speaks to their neutrality.

Does anyone recall the name of the wood-enclosure bookshelf DALI that were demo'd for us? I think they were in the ~$1500 price range.

Perhaps a bit heavier on Marketing then I had (naively) expected, but a good level of actual info transfer as well. Good meeting in all.
BTW: Does anyone recall the name of the wood-enclosure bookshelf DALI that were demo'd for us?

It was a good educational experience. Have to admit my friend and I both raised our eyebrows a bit when the Dali reps stated their tweeters induced zero distortion and their speakers were completely neutral. Considering the perfect tweeter and speaker may never be developed, Dali seemed a bit loose or optimistic with these claims. Nevertheless, fine speakers.

A real effort to inform as well as sell. Good meet up.

Pleasureable afternoon listening to some interesting data and bit comparisons on some fabulous speakers with a fine selection of music. A real treat too to meet an industry rep and a (long traveled) factory rep. Hats off to the folks at Encore for their hospitality, and thank you Jeff for setting up the opportunity.

I replied to Rommel's question re timing, but not sure if it went out, so here's a repeat: The presentations Sat should run about 1.5 hr. If you come at 1:30, I think there'll still be plenty going on.

Any idea how long the presentation will last. I am asking because I have other commitments Saturday morning until pass noon and I might not be able to make it at 1:00 p.m.; but; I can make it half an hour to an hour after 1:00.
