Bike Eastern Trail to Old Orchard Beach

  • June 1, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • Monument Square Park

Meet at Monument Square and bike the Eastern Trail to OOB. Definitely bring lots of snacks, water and sunscreen for a full day ride. Trail is crushed gravel at points so please consider that when deciding if your bike is suitable for this ride (or which bike to take).

We will make further plans as the date gets closer but after compiling survey results it looks like people want to do more rides including full day rides, so let's do it!

Weather for Sunday looks good!!! Anyone new planning to come? Start time is still 9, so we will likely be back by 1pm-2pm depending on how many breaks we take.

Just looked at weather forecast...ugh. I vote to reschedule since last year's ride was so much fun in the Sun...then there were OOB drinks and a band on the beach which made it that much more memorable! "Sunny weekend rides...the way Maine cycling life was meant to be with new friends"

I was thinking we should have some flat-tire/basic bike maintenance stuff with us? I can bring some tire levers/wrench/air pump. Maybe everyone wants to make sure they have a tube for their bike? Anything else we should bring?

Also, the weather has been great the past few days but if it looks to be more than a 50% chance of rain for Saturday I'll reschedule the ride.

I'd love to do this ride, but I only have a road bike, and it sounds like the gravel would not make for a pleasant or safe ride. If anyone wants to take a different route, maybe we could ride together.

Hi Susan, My family has done a long weekend bike trip along this corridor for the past couple of years and my wife has ridden her road bike each time. The travel lanes on the trail are very well beaten down so she has never had a problem. The worst part these days is the 20 yards of gravel along an early stretch of the trail in SoPo. The stretch through the Scarborough Marsh and OOB should be just fine.

Thanks for input, Derek! I guess I wouldn't choose my road bike since I have an alternate but it sounds like it wouldn't be so bad, Susan!

I love this ride! Unfortunately, I'll be out of town for a wedding. I'll take a raincheck though. Have fun!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
