Introduction
I was a bike mechanic for 10 years then taught transportation alternatives for another 10. Now I teach bike repair/riding skills, staff training via The Bicycle Workshop. My day job is as the Bike Commuter Education Program director for GO MAINE.
What are you looking to get out of this group?
To help cyclists ride more and connect with the cycling community in general. They/ we are good people!
Would you like to have mentor to help you "learn the ropes" about commuting by bicycle, or would you be willing to be a mentor to someone else?
I can certainly mentor and hope to always be learning from the rest of you.
Where do you commute from and to, and how many miles round-trip is it?
For many years I commuted between home, work and school from Munjoy Hill to USM or around Portland. Now I live in Bath and unfortunately drive/ carpool to Portland or locations around the state several days a week. A cruel irony to be sure.
How long have you been commuting by bike?
Ten years in Pennsylvania, Five years in Tucson, AZ, Seven years in Portland, ME.

Hi Erik,
Since you offered I'd love to pick your brain! We currently have a Schwinn trailer that I'm not that fond of. I was looking at the Chariot, but how many years do you think we can get out of it until the kiddos outgrow it (they're almost the same age as yours). any thoughts?
How far do you commute in a typical day?
Have you heard of good cargo bikes for kids that may be useful in Maine conditions? I've reviewed a few www.grovestreet
