To interested Parties in Pedestrian and Bicycle Planning in Portland:

On Monday, October 29, 2012, the Planning Board will hold a workshop to consider a new Pedestrian and Bicycle Chapter to the City's Comprehensive Plan.

The Planning Board will take up the issue in the City Council Chambers of City Hall at approximately 5:30 (meeting starts at 3:30 and the Bike Ped Chapter is 3rd on the agenda.)

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan includes a vision, goals, objectives and strategies for improving walking and bicycling in the City. The Chapter additionally includes infrastructure recommendations as informed by bicycle and pedestrian network maps documenting exiting and proposed multi-use pathways, bicycle byways and boulevards, and pedestrian routes.

Planning Board Workshops are open to the public and public comment will be taken at this meeting. The Planning Board's role is to recommend changes to the Comprehensive Plan to the City Council.  No decisions will be made at this meeting. A Planning Board Public Hearing on this item is tentatively scheduled for November 13 and the Board may vote on recommending the plan for adoption at that time.

Plans are available in the Portland Planning Division, 4th Floor, City Hall.  If you wish to submit written comments, address them to Bill Needelman, Senior Planner, Planning Division, City Hall, 4th Floor, 389 Congress Street, Portland, Maine 04101, contact by phone at[masked] or e-mail at [address removed]    To access agenda materials on-line, please visit the following web address on or after the Friday preceding the meeting date:  http://www.portlandmaine.gov/planning.htm
