What types of products would you like to see more of at our local retailers?

Here are some utility-oriented bicycle products that are not generally available at stores, but we think it might be nice if they were. If you're not sure what all these are, see http://www.meetup.com/Portland-Bike-Commuting/messages/boards/thread/7280180#30176716 for links.

What label best describes you?

It is often reported that many people who ride bikes for transportation, or otherwise are not fitness riders or racers, are loathe to describe themselves as "cyclists". That term sometimes conjures up images of the lycra-clad weekend warrior, and many transportational riders don't consider themselves that. Yet, doesn't just riding a bicycle make you a "cyclist"? Or do you prefer another term? I often use "bicyclist" as a less loaded term, although I'm aware that technically rules out adult trikes or other pedal vehicles of more than two wheels. So I'm curious what label (if any) you are *most* comfortable with or most prefer.

Are you okay with this intersection bike lane?

For upcoming bicycle paint on Forest Avenue, a transportation engineering consultant is recommending a bike line be used on Forest Avenue approaching Walton Street, and that the dashed bike line continue all the way up to the stop line. It would stay to the right of the rightmost general lane, from which cars could turn right (as well as go straight). See Google Streetview at http://tinyurl.com/ForestWalton or generic diagram at http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/0/d/7/600_10532983.jpeg. Do you think this is okay to do?

Do you ride in shoulders?

You may not realize that according to Maine law (http://tinyurl.com/MaineBikeLaw), bicyclists may ride in shoulders but are not required to. Of course many bicyclists prefer to use them when they are available. If there is a paved shoulder available in good condition, do you ride on it or stay in the travel lane?

Are you interested in bicycle touring?

By bicycle touring, I mean incorporating travel by bicycle into your vacation, either do the entire thing by bicycle, carrying everything you need on your bike, or at incorporating bicycle travel into parts of a vacation.
