Play Some Hot Sommertime Blues...

So let's have another jam! Its summertime, we all can get inspired at the Blues Festival next week and then bring it on home!

Same format as always: lead a song if you'd like or suggest one; take a solo or just play backup, or just listen and enjoy. Feel free ahead of time to post songs for us to practice as well. Participate at whatever level you're comfortable with, this is about getting together to create community to enjoy this music we love and share it with others. The more we contribute the better the jam for all.

If you haven't attended yet some things to note are all instruments are welcome but the house doesn't provide sound (except vocals mic) so you have to bring your own, but acoustic players can use the house mic if they want to solo. Also as this is a community jam all levels are welcome so it won't be as tight as some open mic jams are, the 'performance' aspect is less important than including everybody. We want to keep this balance, there are plenty of good open mic nights around town. That said, we've got a great core group of musicians that come out, and we routinely have newcomers show up that are wonderful people and great musicians as well, and we've formed a great community over time... If you think you're not so talented don't be intimidated,  we've seen a lot of people really improve by playing with others. So hope to see you there!

I just want to thank everyone that came out to this Jam . . . What a great bunch of fabulous musican's and musicianship . . . excellent job everyone. Oh, and I have to apologize - while I was on stage and I played my leads/guitar very very loud . . . well, with my amp facing away from me while I was on stage I truly could not hear what I was doing to everyone in the audience . . . I'm truly Sorry about that! But, signing off with a positive note . . . You folks R-o-c-k-e-d down there at . . . Shaker & Vine! . . .

Nice photos Ken! Thanks to Zack for conducting all us animals :) Was getting a bit loud sometimes for the indoor "arena" (although I'm sure I contributed my share). I'm up for an acoustic Jam sometime also. Been awhile since I came for a Jam, and glad I did. Really enjoyed it!

I'm deaf now, had to leave early with the wife, but got to sing/lead a few, see some friends, hopefully made some new ones and even had some fun. Lemme know if you wanna start a blues band in the Hillsboro area.... or something. Dave needs to have the keys going through the PA; am I right? Good stuff. Bass player was tight, too. All the levels were a bit off for me and a little loud. The amp circle is so tough. Thanks!

It looks like Steve, our organizer & fearless leader, is feeling under the weather and has asked me to "lead" the group - my pleasure. Is there anyone out bringing just their voice and no other instruments? I was thinking I'd lead and sing the first few, but wanted to work in those vocalists, so they're not sitting around. Notice how I worked in there, their & they're into the comment? That's fun... we're gonna have a metric ton more fun than that today! Gonna work on playing as a gigantic string section as well.

How are we doing on securing a bass player?

    July 2, 2013

  • Gary H.

I’ve played Rock-n-Roll, New Country, eclectic Pink Floyd but, the Blues is the most difficult to play. The reason it’s difficult is because of how the artist is able communicate what’s going on in his mind – being able to transfer that to their fingers – then, having those fingers distort and translate all of that information - that reveals itself as a “Feeling” - to where everyone in the room feels it as well . . . It takes lots of practice and “payin’ your dues”!
