Hey All -- Speaking of my Southside Jook Joint....
9 Muses is going through some changes (new owner, dealing with the city on noise complaints etc) so it will be unable to host the Jook Joint (or any other live music) at least until mid-January.
I've had a great time with those jooks and I know some of you have too. 9 Muses also likes hosting them and they have asked me to keep it there if they get back on track in January.
So...I'll keep in touch with them to see how they are doing. If it turns out they are closing or unable to continue hosting the Jook, then I'll look for a new place for it. (Any suggestions? Should be a bar or restaurant where we can play unplugged. A small stage is nice. And good food and drink of course is nice too!)
In the meantime, I guess we won't have a jook this month or next, sorry. If anything changes I'll update it on the Meetups site and with another group email. Thanks. Cheers, SC

Hi Bill,

Small group jams can be done as well.  If someone wants to have a small jam, they can write a short description of what they want, the date/time/place info, how many people maximum, then send it to the Organizer, who can then post it on the site.  That's essentially what happened with Steve's (Chezz) Southside Jam listings.  You can also specify what instruments (or limit the number of kinds of instruments), etc.

If you host a jam you are responsible for leading it as well (or making sure someone leads and gives structure to the jam).  If you would like to host a small jam, write up what you would like to do and we can post it up.  You can send it direct to me if you want at [address removed].

Over the last several months my attendance at the Casual Jams has spotty at best - just too many things going on and especially during the summer. I have always regretted not making a better effort to get to the blues jams as I would like to get a better handle on the blues. I have a small studio on my property that would be adequate to host a small group (5-ish) and could be "cleaned up" to host a couple more. I suffer from TMS (too much shit) but most of the stuff is amplifiers, PA and some recording stuff so the option of showing up with just a guitar is well received. I have a very crappy drum set which should be removed, in fact if anyone wants it I would give 'em a good deal as the space it takes up would be good for two more bodies.
I'm in Tualatin and would like to host a blues jam with an initial limit of 5 people who could advise the rearrangement of the space to hopefully host a greater number in the future.
If anyone is going to the Slow Jam I will be there

Bill

-----Inline Message Follows-----

Hi,

I think meetup is a great umbrella, as it provides a central hub for people to find us.  I have seen many of the blues group people in the PAJAMAS [or whatever it will be called] group.  Bodhi has been covering all the costs in that group.  I would like to see blues as a regular monthly meeting as a part of the casual jams, but separate from their meeting.  I also think we should cover at least part of Bodhi's costs.  He has been seeking large public venues, as it has become too big to fit in his house.  This has caused me to be less active to avoid smoky joints.

Fiddler Barry.

But as an aside I would gladly contribute to the costs had I known about them.

Hi all -

You may have noticed we don't yet have an acoustic blues jam scheduled for November. That's because I need make some changes to this meetup group for personal/family reasons.

I would like to suggest two options, and get your feedback on them.

Option 1: Someone volunteers to take over as Organizer for the Meetup group (I'll be glad to stay on as asst. organizer and still have some jam sessions at my place). Cost for the Meetup site runs about $12/month which is usually covered by donations.

Option 2: We merge into the "Portland Area Casual Jams for Musicians and Singers". I have emailed with Bodhi (the organizer) and he's up for it. A large percentage of our members are also members of this group (over half I think). They are going through a possible renaming process (fun to watch the suggestions), but will remain a broad based group, holding all different Meetups for different musical interests (Celtic, Bluegrass, rock, etc.), so holding Blues (electric or acoustic) specific jam Meetups can still easily happen under their structure. I would be an assistant organizer as well, and would hold occasional jams at my place.

If no one volunteers for option 1, then we'll go with option 2.

Thanks!
-Gregg
