Jam Session 101 and Practice Workshop

  • March 27, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • Bodhi's Basement Bistro

This workshop introduces participants to the skills necessary to more fully participate in a jam session or impromptu music endeavor.

As a beginner's class, this is also a reasonable environment for experienced musicians to gain some practice-time with secondary, less-familiar instruments in a group setting.

Topics of discussion include the basics of song structure and orchestration, communicating song structure to new musicians, and leading a song in a music session.

Practical instruction in playing instruments, note-taking, lead breaks, and fronting a song will be presented.

The aim of this workshop is to give individuals the skills necessary to confidently and fully participate in open jams and other musical endeavors or events.

Please Note:  There is a fee of $5 per session for this 3-hour workshop.

Well darn, I committed to another event just last night. Now I have found this, though, so I will sign up in the future

I hope you all watch your health! Lots of last-minute illness, so everybody be careful, get some rest, etc.

Been fighting the cold my wife and child have and I feel I may be losing the battle. Seeing as there's a backup list I'm going to play it safe and give up my spot. Will have to wait until the next one to join the fun.

Hi, can we do one in a weekend instead of Wednesday? Thanks.

is this the same as the music development or a new group starting?

    March 5, 2013

    • Rob "Bodhi" W.

This will be extremely similar to the Music Development Club. The distinction is that we're giving pure vocalists a different outlet, and we're giving solo performers a different outlet. Depending on how these particular "beginner's jam classes" go, we may add an actual "Music Fundamentals and Beginning Instruments" workshop, and a second type of jam class ("Advanced Jam Class"?)

Anyway -- for a lot of it, this will be similar to the Music Development Club.

Hey Bodhi--Will there be a music development workshop on March 13?
