This once-a-month workshop is all about what vocalists need to know -- about their voice as an instrument, about music, about musicians, and equipment. Each class will be limited to 8 students.
This workshop series will focus on allowing individual vocalists to understand their own voice as an instrument, and learn the skillset necessary to engage their fellow musicians in orchestrating their arrangements. From an instrument perspective, we will discuss things like range, breath control, resonators, tone, pitch, ear-training, key, and so on.
Alongside these technical matters, since the vocalist is also the front-person, we will also focus on performance-oriented details such as engaging the audience, using amplification effectively, selling a piece, and song interpretation.
Participants will be required to show up with at least 3 pieces they wish to work on, and include chord-structure notes and lyrics sheets for an accompanist. E-mail me at [masked] with your song selection ahead of time, so that I can prepare accordingly. Students who do not prepare ahead of time may attempt to work using well-known jam songs or pop songs in an 'ad hoc' fashion, but this is discouraged.
Please Note: There is a $10 fee for this 3 hour workshop.
