Monthly Jam at Shaker and Vine

Every month, we host a group-oriented jam session at Shaker and Vine (formerly Vino Vixens). A great venue, Shakers allows us access to their beautiful, cozy back room where we can jam away the afternoon in comfort.

Doors open (and gear starts loading in) at 3:00, so the jam will probably start about 20 or 30 minutes after that!   We'll play until about 6:00 then load out by 6:30.

This jam session is open to the everybody of all skill levels, all instruments, and all styles.  Rock, country, blues, pop, whatever you want -- however, please recognize that Vino Vixens is a licensed establishment, and as such participants must be at least 21 years old.

This is an acoustic-friendly jam session -- but we do recognize that with a large number of acoustic musicians all jamming together, lead players and singers need a little help.  So bring your small amp and turn up during your lead, but then remember to turn down to the same volume level as your acoustic friend sitting next to you.

We'll be organizing this as a "circle jam", where we all sit around in a general circle, and as each person's turn comes up, they have he option to nominate a song for everybody to play along with.  If you don't want to sing, we'll find somebody to sing for you (provided we have the words!).  Recognize that all of these songs usually require a little coordination assistance, and as such choosing a simple pattern-style song, and bringing along a cheat-sheet with chords (and words!) is highly recommended!

We hope to see you there!

Wow, this was a huge group! I thought with an amp I'd be able to hear myself, but not quite! But here is the video of jamming on You've Got to Change your Evil Ways I grabbed when I put my guitar down - http://youtu.be/arDchWP-3Qg

I had a good time. Good players and singers, interesting mix of songs played. A little tough getting the leader's attention for solos, though.

I just found out we have a gig Saturday night, so I might not make it that afternoon. Nice big room in the back at Shaker and Vine. We played there Wednesday night (with only 2 people in the audience - they truly don't have a built in crowd, and we are fairly unknown in the area). However, the room we played in was very nice. Turned out to be a great practice session. They have their own PA, but we could not get the bartender to help us figure out how it all worked, so we hooked up our own monitor and things went well.

I just picked up the bass last year, took some lessons from a guy that only taught me tab reading (about 3 months), and then had an accident and subsequent surgery, and rehab, and just picked it back up again. I don't have an acoustic, but I do have a small amp that I could "turn down". I only know the basic blues progression in just about any key. Still learning scales, modes, and just started learning to site read. My fear is that I might be too beginner for this group, but would love the opportunity to just sit and listen and "get a feel" for how you guys do it. I'd also be interested in maybe getting smaller groups together as a "learning" experience to work with me from time to time. Any interest there?
