Music-Development Club

This is the event series for newcomers, beginners, proficient musicians working on secondary instruments, and anybody who needs a little help with the basics of working with other musicians.

This is where you practice in private, so you can eventually head out in public!

Hosted in a private venue with full access to a P.A., mics, drumkit, keyboard, and various percussion instruments, the Music Development Club aims to help you as a musician identify the next skillset you want to hone, and help you decide how best to go about doing just that.

We’ll be taking it slow, using a lot of communication, and working as a group to learn standard, jam-friendly songs and create some great music in a small, focussed group.

Each meeting will consist of some conversation and communication about your personal musical goals, and then will lead in to some focused musical performances of simple, jam-friendly songs. With a focus on education and communication, we’ll be working on getting you up to speed and comfortable with the structure of songs, working with other musicians, orchestrating songs on the fly, and so forth.

We’ll also give you a chance to break into smaller groups, perform solo and duet pieces, and practice new skills with new partners at every workshop.

Meeting every two weeks allows you to work at your own pace, so that at the next workshop you can showcase your project and choose a new task, and get new feedback!

So if you want a focus on education, communication, and personal musical growth, then the Music Development Club workshops might be what you’re looking for!

Please Note:  There is a suggested donation of $5 per session for this series of workshops.

It was ok, but not the style of jam session I was looking for. Kudos to all who came though! Playing in front of others when you're new at it is hard!

Oi Bobhi, looks like I'm first on the waiting list. Should I go ahead and show up in case some one flakes or is it pretty tight as far as everyone on the list actually making an appearance?

I have come down with a cold and have scratchy voice (can't sing) and do not want to give to others, so unfortunately have to bail for this week (RATS!)

Feel better soon, Kathleen. Better to take care of it properly now, and not have it get even worse. We'll all see you again soon.

Hi, I am a singer songwriter who lives in Eugene, and am excited to check out this group. Hopefully I will be able to make it. Say, I was wondering if you have directions to this event. This would help me out since I am not familiar with the Portland area. Thanks!

Hi Lia. The workshops are held in my basement music space. The address is above, and you can simply paste it into google maps to get a solid set of directions. It is off Holgate, south of Powell Blvd, at 25th avenue, on the East side of the city, across the Ross Island Bridge.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
