Hey all, very excited to be part of this group! Don't want to lose my musical chops and have been wanting to play with others in some sort of loosely organized situation for some time.
It depends on what instrument I am working with. For percussion, it's Afro/Cuban or folksy, traditional if it means spoons and washboard; For guitar it just depends, and for accordion, well, most anything goes EXCEPT for polka!
I grew up listening to Dixieland band and classical and 60's jazz. By mid-70's I was working for music companies and managing record stores. Living in Mexico gave me song of the Mexican Revolution, Agustin Lara, and Carlos Guardel. Later on, I have been turned on to gypsy jazz and country swing! So, I have a very wide range of musical influence. About the only thing I can't stomach for long is all techo, thrash metal, rap, popular country or anything that sounds like someone screaming at me.
Yes. My bunny rabbit loves it but I haven't had much human response lately!
Accordion, a bit of guitar and keyboard, conga, spoons, washboard, shekere and other hand percussion and if I am somewhere that I need an instrument but don't have one in hand, free reign with your kitchen utensils usually suffices.
Over 20 years...started with spoons and washboard here and in New Orleans, was a percussionist for a highwire act in Key West in the early 90's, back to NO working with a jazz standard band, and here in Portland with Mambo Queens, the Lions of Batucada, and have served as mercenary percussionist for random bands during this time, as well.
