Handmade Collage Fortune Cookie Books

Fortune Cookie Books

  Join us this month as Carol Mikkelson teaches an easy technique for covering book boards by making a “Fortune Cookie Book”.  We’ll be using Oriental inspired papers to cover an accordion-style book, collaging the inside pages using clip-art, stencils, and rubber stamps, and putting it all together into a fun, and easy project.

Supply list-

  * Bring a bone folder if you have one.  If not, bring a spoon.

   * Fiskars-type paper cutter.  Bring a scoring blade, for Fiskars paper cutter if you  have one.  If you don’t have this type of paper cutter you will also need an Xacto  knife and a cutting mat to cut cardstock.  Also bring any Asian themed papers or ephemera for added charm

  * Small ruler

Remember, we all like to share, so do not be intimidated if you do not have everything on the supply list!

Members in good standing free.  Drop-ins $5.00.  We welcome new members and can't wait to meet you!

    Thanks all for allowing me to teach. I always enjoy it. Laurel, just hang on to my paper cutter until I get back next spring.

      I'm going to make a book using this technique for my new grandson. It will have pages for people to write at thr shower and when they visit in the hospital.

      Carol, I think we will have less than expected. Looking forward to the fun tomorrow!

    I have Asian-themed paper for everyone to use but if you have any at home, please bring it, if you like. Do bring any Asian-themed rubber stamps you already have, plus scissors, glue sticks, markers, pens, and I am especially short on ink pads. I have a black and a gold, but other colors may be nice to have.

    So excited to be able to attend this one! I have quite a few Asian-themed stamps that I'll bring along with some origami paper (FYI: both Blick & Collage have a decent assortment of origami papers, including the richly patterned chiyogami style, if you Westside, Uwajimaya is a great source for paper too). I still have some newspaper from a few places that I'll bring along if anyone would like to use some of it.

    Good thing you asked Betty! I forgot to mention a few items everyone could bring if they have them. Glue sticks, pens (gel, micron, or markers) ink pads in a variety of colors. I think that's everything but I'll post again if I think of any other supplies to bring.
