"Collage On Canvas" July Session 2

What we will do is apply your collage pieces to a painted canvas to make a mixed media work of art.

Last month’s meeting, we applied images to the canvas. In this month's meeting, we can embellish and finish the collages.

Supplies to bring:

1. Stretched Canvas painted with a background color – for this time, it should be fairly smooth

2.Golden Gel medium – regular matte

3.Paint brushes, you can use small foam brushes

4. A bottle of water for clean up, a small jar to clean your brush in, and a rag or paper towels

5. Some waxed paper or plastic to cover your table area

6. Scissors to cut your images

7. Old credit card, bone folder or popsicle stick to smooth images – it might get gel on it

8. Assorted papers, magazine clippings, scanned photos, maps, and words on a theme you have chosen – bring more than you think you might need

Once again, the group was super friendly and sharing. This time we were in a much better room of Tabor Space than in June (ground level, made lugging in supplies much easier; also, a bigger space and enough tables for everyone to have her own if she wanted).
My only complaint is that 2 hours is not enough time for me to get set up and get my mind in gear to work. Three hours would be better.

Enjoyed working in this technique of gel medium. I learned a variation that requires a heated tack iro, which is often unavailable. Good substitute. Very enjoyable..

I signed up to go but wound up working instead. Will have to try for the next session. And, I was so looking forward to it - got my supplies, painted my canvas, etc.!

Yes, I had forgotten about the name change but I've been there many times since. In Beaverton they are in the same location as Art Media was. I didn't know they had a rewards program - thanks for sharing that.

Yes, paint before you arrive. Remember, Art Media changed to Dick Blick and moved... :).Sign up for the rewards program and you will get 10% off each purchase. Try to get the matte medium and an inexpensive brush as the medium can be hard on it. Looking forward to working with you.

Yes I have started a stash and need to buy the gel medium etc. I plan on going to Art Media on Friday before an appointment to purchase whatever I need. I have a canvas. Do I paint that before I get there-I would think so correct? Thanks.

Betty, will you be also be bringing the other supplies listed especially the gel medium and a paintbrush? That is what you need to start and complete the project. Let me know and I can help with what you don't have. Marsha

Thanks. I haven't done a collage ever and want to start. I will be bringing in a small painted canvas and have started assembling some papers, etc. My virgin collage LOL!! Thanks again.

Yes you can observe or you can start a small collage on canvas as we did last meeting and I will help you. You can look at the supply list above and bring a small painted canvas and some scrap you would like to make a collage with. Whatever you are comfortable with.

First time is free and we will be happy to have you observe. You may want to bring along a small project for practice, though. Renee

I just signed up for this group and was wondering if I could just observe at this meet-up and not participate as I have to play catch-up?

For embellishing you can bring rubber stamps, Staz On stamp pads, keys, game pieces, beads, glitter, gold leaf, buttons, lace, metal numbers, anything you feel will ehance the collage you made. If you have extra items it will be fun to bring some things to share.
We will use the gel medium again and also Alene's Tacky glue (in the brown bottle) to affix the items.
You might want to consider a box lid or something to use to take your collage home while it is drying.
