I am pretty new to guitar, having started playing in September, 2010.
I am looking to see if there are any advanced or intermediate guitarists who would be interested in leading sessions that are focused on the intermediate and advanced guitarists.
There is also a need for hosts for the sessions of beginners. Please email Chris if you are interested.
I have found that as a beginner, the meetups where the beginners play together suit me best.
I have heard from other beginners that they enjoy the atmosphere as well.
It has been suggested that there be meetups where only acoustics are allowed, due to the fact they get drowned out by the electrics.
I can understand that, and I think it’s a good idea.
Whoever steps forward to lead any of these sessions is welcome to set their guidelines in this regard.
They can set the maximum number of attendees as well.
As for a place to meet, I think the Blue Diamond on 20th / Sandy would continue to allow acoustic only meetups … from 5-7 pm on Saturday. I am not sure about other days. I’d have to call the Blue Diamond and clear it first. But I think Beth would allow it.
Of course, if there is another venue where meetups could be held, that’s probably fine too.
There are other meetup guitar groups … and maybe they can and do provide you what you need in regards to playing together with others.
If that works out, great.
I am just here to point out that there is an opportunity for each and every one of you to participate in and even organize a session.
We do have a growing list of guitarists ... some of whom might be very interested in playing together with other very skilled players.
There is reward in the fact that you will be playing with others. You will also find that others will appreciate that you have hosted a session.
I liked what Lance wrote...
The Portland Guitar Group is a gathering for guitarists of all levels to get together and jam! From beginners to professionals, everyone is welcome to attend. All styles are welcome too.
The majority of sudents/guitarists never go beyond practicing at home and playing alone to meeting other people to jam with. This group will change all that for you. One of the best ways to improve is to play along with other people. So sign up, come on out, and jam!
