This is a great hike close to home, across the Columbia River from Angel's Rest. It's about 8 miles long and has an elevation gain of 1100'-1600' ( depending which source you look at), so it's rating is Challenging, and will take about 4.5-5 hrs.

Please Note: This hike requires two crossings of SR14 and has sections of trail near cliffs, and therefore is not suitable for dogs or children.

The Cape Horn Trail is a fairly new trail and one of the closest Gorge trails to the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area. It's not as remote as many other trails, but the views make up for that! We'll hike along some cliffs with views across the river to Angel's Rest, Devil's Rest, Horsetail Falls, and east to Beacon Rock and beyond, and even hike behind a waterfall. The downside is not all of the trail is a "trail". The first mile of the hike is a road walk, although it's a quiet road passing by a horse ranch. I've hiked this four times and only seen two cars drive by. There's also two crossings of Hwy 14, but I've found them easier than crossing Burnside on the Wildwood Trail.
We'll carpool to the park and ride at MP 26, Salmon Falls Rd. There's a restroom there and free parking, no forest pass required.

    •  I had a great time, the trail was gorgeous and having Brian lead us through allowed me to just relax and play follow the leader :>
    •  It was a very nice hike and I'm sure couldn't have found the right way to do it without a guide, so thanks to Brian and everybody for making so enjoyable this first hike that I went to. Looking forward to the next one!
    •  No rain, cool temps, good trail, fun group...it was a great day
