This is a good warm up backpack, or beginner backpack if you're fit. The hike to Cedar Swamp camp is about 7 miles, gaining 2800'. But one third of that is gained in the first mile. By our hike rating chart it's very difficult, but the first mile would be rated extreme.

So we'll just start out with an easy relaxed pace through the steep part.
After we reach Herman Camp, (and the Mystery Water Faucet that Claudio claims is there), the grade becomes more moderate. The scenery improves with each mile, getting further into old growth forest. We'll take a lunch break at Casey creek, then continue to Cedar Swamp Camp for the night. We'll have some time to explore, relax, look for the resident owls, plan the next trip, whatever.

What to bring:

- Misc. - the usual backpacking necessities ( if you have questions about what to bring, email me)
- Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat
- Food- 1 dinner,1 breakfast, 2 lunches
- Stove/cook stuff
- Water filter
- Appropriate clothes and rain gear
- Headlamp
- Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
-Sunscreen and mosquito repellent!
- Gas money for the drivers

REMINDER: If you need to change your RSVP to no, please do it by 6/24 to allow time for others to fill the spot.

Deb, I have an extra tent you can borrow if you need. It's an MSR two man and weighs about 4.5 lbs. I know it's heavy, but this isn't a long distance hike.
