Full Moon Backpack of the Louse Canyon in SE Oregon
Strenuous, Rugged terrain. No trails, 40 miles of incredible scenery and canyon exploration..
Rated in Douglas Lorain's Backpacking Oregon an 8 (or 10) in scenery, 10 in solitude, and 10 in difficulty.
Max 12 people. In conjunction with Sierra club
Per Lorain's write-up-
This is an extremely remote and rugged hike down the canyon of the West Little Owyhee River. The canyon features towering cliffs, colonnades and pinnacles, pools of water reflecting canyon walls, and wildlife. The hike is extraordinarily rough and should be contemplated only by very experience and well equipped hikers willing to expend an enormous amount of both physical and mental energy to enjoy this adventure.
Hike requires a shuttle (drivers available locally)
Reservations need to be made at least ten days in advance (Sept 30th). Earnest deposit of $15 (returned or donated to Sierra at completion of hike) Max. 12
