Let's snowshoe to the Tilly Jane A frame and stay overnight inside the shelter. It is about 2.7 miles, 1900' elevation to the shelter. There are tables and a wood burning stove down stairs and a sleeping loft upstairs. You will want to bring a pad, sleeping bag and food for Saturday night, Sunday morning and lunch. We can melt snow for extra water. Sunday morning we will take an optional snowshoe trip up higher on the mountain getting views of Elliot glacier. The a frame is ran by the Oregon Nordic club and you must have a reservation to stay overnight, I have made the reservation and paid for it. The charge is 18$ per person. You will need to mail me a check soon after you sign up. My address is 17101 S.W.Binddale ct. Tigard 97224. If you cancel early you will get a refund.
Difficulty: Moderately strenuous.
Pace: Moderate. I like to stop and take pictures and I am not a super speedy snowshoer.
No special technical skills are required but we may have some traverses where the trail will not be so flat and smooth. Dress in layers! NO COTTON! Please do not show up in blue jeans.
Bring only synthetic, wool, silk clothing. Down is good providing you have a waterproof shell.
Stuff to bring:
One dinner, breakfast and lunch
sleeping pad (the loft is boards) and sleeping bag
Windproof/Waterproof shell or parka
Long underwear recommended - silk or polyester - wear it or pack it. You should have enough clothing to be warm if you are injured and cannot hike. It's harder to stay warm when you are not moving.
Trek poles with powder baskets
Always carry the ten essentials including:
First aid kit
Matches or lighter
Map and compass
A balaclava or face wrap is a good idea too
Ski goggles in case of wind and blowing snow
Drivers will need a snow park pass
