Munra Point and South,revisited

Please read the Description!!! before RSVP

Ok I had such a good time on the ridge line, I would like to do that part only again. So its a out n back of about 6 miles but has a lot of scrambling and ridge walking involved. Very fun stuff , come along if you would like to try it out.

The plan is to go up Munra Point then South on the Ridge line as far as the last nice climb is. There we turn around and come back. Which also is the lunch  spot. You can make a decision then as to do the chimney or just watch from the bottom.

Distance should be around 6 miles Maybe a tad more.

Difficult yes but we wont be in a big hurry this day.

As always if Heights, exposure, using your hands to climb is a problem. This is not the hike for you!

Check out the photos from the Indescrible hike  or Munra South if you want to see a precursor to what you are getting into.

This time of year it may be icy or muddy, please bring traction if you have some.

Also do read the description carefully, if you consider yourself to be a bit more adventurous  sign up for the hike. Similar hikes would be Ruckel Ridge, Elk Mountain, and Table Mountain. If you've done any of these you will like this one.

Very difficult due to steepness , some class 3+ scrambling.

We will start from John B. Yeon unless that new section of road is open.

Pay the drivers $5

Bring the normal winter gear,

And don't ask to be back by 4: pm. Sometimes we are but I hate to be most of the time!

I think I can manage 12 people on this.

I'm not allowing guests on the sign up, if you want to bring one email me and I will consider it.

Stephanie, another meetup had this post:

    POSTING PICTURES AND RATING EVENTS

Meetup has apparently been tweaking the software again. After you attend an event to post pictures and rate the event you will have to click on the event you went to (it will be listed under past events). There you should see a prompt to "rate" the event. Also right by the event title should be a small graphic that says "upload" which you can click on to upload photos that will be put into an album that relates to that event. Already people are having some trouble with this so I thought I would alert everyone. Meetup owns and publishes the software not yours truly. Hopefully they will realize that this is not a good change and we will see a fix. But for now it seems to be set this way.

Thanks Cindi, There was no problem uploading, just viewing. Hope it's fixed soon. At least the pics can still be viewed in the Photos tab!

I don't have any traction devices and wonder if I should exclude myself from this hike.

Hal no crampons please. Yaks or microspikes are ok. Crampons are too aggressive

Rick when you say traction do you mean crampons?

    February 9, 2013

  • Rick L. J.

Mine either but no options for me. Weather looks to be great. Perfect hike for a sunshine day. Andee n Barbara can lead and i'll crawl up on the end. Carry traction if you got them. Extra gloves advisable to. Shorts not a good idea yet, i suppose. Darn

Crap. Apparently my sore throat and foggy head aren't clearing up as hoped. So someone can have my spot :-(

Ruckel Ridge, the hike this is compared to, is my absolute favorite : ). Scrambling is a lot of fun, I have not done Munra, but will look into it as a future hike, maybe scout it out, and post as a new hike in a month or so! Have fun, look forward to photos : ).

I think you're confusing me with someone else and IMO you're coming on a bit strong, considering I on the wait list for this hike.

Is there still a spot left, if so I would love to go!

I want to go, Probably wouldn't be the person standing at the edge, but he rest looks great. How do I get off the waiting list if a spot comes open?

I like the rugged hikes like this one sounds like. The part of Idaho I just moved from is nothing but rugged ridges and deer trails. Sounds fun!
