Hike the Coyote Wall long loop! (semi-exploratory)

This is a great hike in the sunnier Eastern gorge. It has wide-open views and the early wildflowers should be coming out! FYI, this is a popular mountain biking area.

    Hi Meek and Kathy,
I actually had to cut down on the people attending so that I could keep track of the whole group when we're out on the trail. I'll put you on the waiting list but there are a number of people ahead of you.

    Hi Alex,

I'm a Gorge local, so will meet the group at the trail head. There are a couple of starting points. Courtney Rd or this less crowded spot 1/2 mile east (take next left at Rowland Lake - park just off hwy 14) http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/ph/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11249

Where will the hike begin? I'll be there 10ish. Thanks!
    Richard

p.s. It's been so mild, there are already a few tics out!

Hi Richard, we'll begin at the Courtney Rd. trailhead because I'm not quite sure where you're referring to off of Rowland Lake. We'll be there 10ish. My cell phone number is[masked]

hey alex- it's a good hike...we did it last spring. not sure which 'loop' you're doing (the link doesn't work for me) but be aware that the part below the wall (to the west) that goes thru private land was closed last year. It was posted 'no trespassing'. We still made a great out and back hike along the top of the wall all the way to the road at the end, where there's a bench and small hilltop clearing with more views of the Gorge from the 'back' side. Just wanted to give you a heads up on the closed trail in case you were planning on going that way. Have fun!

Hi Matt - thanks for the heads up! I was planning to hike on those areas below the wall so I'll re-route this hike to only areas above the wall.

Snowshoes not necessary - max elevation is 2000'. You might bring traction devices (yaktrax/etc.) if you like to be very prepared, but the forecast is for temps to get up to 47 at 2000' in the eastern gorge and not get below freezing in the next few days.
