First Headlamp Hike Of 2014

Distance: 6 miles
Pace: 2.5 mph
Gain: 800 feet

We'll hike the Wildwood Trail at night from the Zoo to the Pittock Mansion. Dress in layers, bring your headlamp, or two, and be ready for mud and rain. We will take a shorter route back through Hoyt Arboretum.

Bring things that glow in the dark and we'll light up the trail.

My meetup app gave me directions to Wolfgang helicopters in downtown which is not right I guess. The memorial is in a totally different area. We're headed there now but will definitely be late.

Hi Jeff, for those of us who aren't familiar with the start of the Wildwood Trail near the Zoo, can you add some details on where we'll meet relative to the Zoo parking lot? Is it north of The World Forestry Center and the Zoo parking lot? Parking will be busy and I don't want to wander around in the wrong direction if I find some obscure parking space. Thanks!

    December 31, 2013

    • Jeff

Yes, it is a few hundred yards north of the upper zoo parking lot, just follow the only road going uphill.

Wow...you can afford both? All I have is a had full of fire flies from Atlanta Georgia in a Sugar dispenser I got at the Truck Stop café...the sugar keeps them alive just a little longer

Zoo lights will be going on at that time, so parking will be difficult. The $4 parking fee at the Zoo is only charged when visiting the Zoo. After January 10th, the parking meters at the Zoo will be operating.

    December 24, 2013

  • Jeff

It's going to be hard to find parking spots with this many people! But there is parking for $4 at the Zoo or you can tax MAX to the Zoo station.

And I would recommend bringing a leash - this route involves a very busy street crossing (Burnside)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
