Silver Falls Hiking and Camping

RSVP Rules:

I have questions posted throughout this description highlighted. Please post your answers after you have RSVP'd. Thank you.

I reserve the right to remove folks from the list due to known personality conflicts/disagreements. This event is more intimate than just a day hike as we are 8 people spending the weekend together sharing accommodations. My goal is relaxation and fun, not drama or hurt feelings. If you have any concerns/questions, please feel free to send me a private email. Thank you.

The Campsite:

I have one campsite reserved for this weekend with a maximum of 8 people. Natasha has a second campsite reserved for this weekend. Both campsites can fit a maximum of 3 tents each for a total of 6 (maybe 7 now that we have a sister site). Please indicate (1). if you have a tent; (2). if you are willing to share your tent and (3). how many can fit comfortably in your tent.

Check-In is at 4pm on Friday. You are welcome to arrive at 4pm (I will be closer to 7pm), but please be aware that we will need to fit 16 people in 6 tents plus a "kitchen" when you start setting up. Please be flexible to move if the group needs it. Thanks.

Check-Out is at 1pm on Sunday.

The cost to camp for the weekend is $10.

Carpooling - The $10 does not include any extra vehicle fees (carpooling is recommended). Please indicate (1). if you can drive, (2). how many (plus their gear) you can take with you, (3). what time you plan to leave.

Camp fire - Everyone is required to bring/buy 2 bundles so we have enough wood for both nights

The Food:

Everyone is responsible for their own food and drink. Please indicate what equipment you have to bring to contribute to our "group kitchen"

Please be one appetizer to share with the group when we return from our hike Saturday around 4pm for Happy Hour.

The Beach:

When not hiking, a nice leisurely stroll along the beach is amazing. Hopefully we will be able to have a beach fire after our hike on Saturday.

The Hike:

On Saturday, after a leisurely breakfast, we will gear up for our Trail of Ten Falls Hike with the goal of departing from the campsite at 11am. The hike is 8.7 miles long with 1,330' elevation gain. Expected return time to camp is 3-4pm (depending on the number of photos taken :)).

Hi, I have a tent that can accommodate 3 people as well, but I am happy to bunk with someone else to cut down on the number of tents. I could drive or I could carpool. Not sure what I will bring for the potluck -- possibly something with all the tomato sauce I made from my garden.

    September 12, 2014

    • Kathy

OK, so now it looks likely that I will drive. So who would like to come with me?

Answer to the above questions: I have a small tent that I'll be bringing for myself. I'm happy to share with another male but I'm a really lite sleeper and can't be with anyone who snores etc at night. The littlest noises wake me up. I have a camp table, two stoves, a jet boil pan (for water only) and other misc kitchen items I'll be bringing. Everyone is welcome to use my stoves and jet boil. Only ask that someone else brings some extra fuel since I only have enough for myself and won't be able to get extra due to money restraints. The stoves use the butane canisters and the jet boil uses the jet boil canisters. Also have a propane lantern that has plenty of fuel for the weekend. Extra sleeping bags if anyone needs one or two to borrow. Let me know beforehand. Other misc camping supplies as well that I'm happy to share. Will pack accordingly. Have plenty of wood so will bring a box or two of that. Am carpooling with Cami and Jen so don't need a ride. I think that covers it all!

I'll be bringing homemade baked beans for the potluck. See y'all next weekend!

    May 6, 2014

    • Sandra

Jen, do I need to come to prep meeting or can you notify me of any no shows.

      May 7, 2014

    • Jen

Sandra, open spots for the trip will be given to people on the waitlist that show up to the prep meeting. If you do not show at the prep meeting I cannot guarantee you a spot. With 12 waiting, I am sure that we will fill any no shows at the prep meeting.

  • Ty

Can’t wait! Should be a fun trip :)

    March 27, 2014

  • Natasha

    I reserved 059 next to you :)

    March 27, 2014

    • Sandra

I am on the waiting list, is there room for more participants since there's another campsite reserved?

      March 27, 2014

    • Jen

No. Each campsite can have 8 and we are maxed at 16. As we get closer someone may have a change in plans and you can get in

    Hello Jen,
I would like to get your take on an idea. Since dogs are not allowed on the Falls trail (for safety reasons), what do you think about a second hike that day for dog owners? I am very familiar with Silver Falls Park and would be happy to host a hike in the back country where dogs are allowed. It's not exactly back country because the trails are marked, safe, and beautiful:) I am a current event host for Endorphin, Moab, and several others.
This would solve the problem of having to leave our pups in camp while we hike--which is not a great idea for anyone concerned--including our furry friends.

    Anyway, just a thought:)
    Best, Connie

    March 27, 2014

    • Jen

Connie, I cannot approve or appoint another hike leader that has not gone through the groups process to be an appointed hike leader. However, if you want to go off on your own for a second hike after our group's designated hike later, you are more than welcome to do that.

  • Natasha

I am on waiting list :(
    (1) do not have tent yet
    (2) have small car, Honda Fit. can ride with somebody or can drive (take 2 more and their gear)
    (3) Can leave around 1/2 pm (if ;) I change my status to going)
    Have a great day.
