Easy one night backpack then hike to Cooper Spur

We will start at the Cloud Cap campground and hike 1.5 miles to the stone shelter gaining about 800' elevation. There we will set up camp and watch an awesome sun set. There is water somewhat close to the camp site, you may want to filter. (I will bring one to share). I will get up early (this is optional for you) and watch the sun rise. The hike Sunday up to Tie in Rock is the highest trail on Mt. Hood gaining about 2000' over 2.5 miles, this is done with only our day packs. Total miles round trip is about 8 with 2800' elevation. The weather looks very good now and the views will be great. We will get a close up look at Elliot and Newton Clark glacier. This time of year you can hear a lot of rock fall and sometimes the crevasses moving. The drive is around 170 miles round trip with a knarly 18 miles on gravel. The forecast is for a high of 60 and a low Saturday night of 44. Please bring 17$ if you are ridding. Everyone should have the normal backpacking items, tent, sleeping bag, food, extra clothes (no cotton) ten essentials, ect. We should be back in Portland mid afternoon.

Hi, I'll be coming from the Dalles. Can I meet you at the trailhead? Light blue honda fit with NY plates. Phone # (802)[masked]
What time do you expect to get to the trailhead at?

@Lauren. Be aware the road to Cloud Cap has some deep water trenches. Your Fit may not make it. I was just there last month and my Subaru did ok when I went very slow over the drainage troughs but I don't think my wife's Fit would have made it without scraping the underside. You might want to leave you car around the Cooper Spur ski area and hitch a ride up the road with someone else. Just a thought.

Thanks for the warning Ed! I talked to Pete and it looks like I'm going to meet the carpool at Cooper Spur. Appreciate the heads up!
