I am a recent biology graduate who has been captivated by the possibilities of growing food with aquaponics. I am currently running a research-oriented aquaponic system. You can see what I have been up to on my blog: annemphillip.com.
I would like to be a part of a local group that discusses all things aquaponics. I believe there may be other people in the Portland metro area who are interested in aquaponics or who are running systems right now. Probably, like me, they either have questions or knowledge to share.
I started this group - I'm looking forward to meeting you!
I have three media bed, flood and drain aquaponic systems housed in a greenhouse. Each fish tank is 55 gallons. These identical systems allow me to have replication as I collect data and conduct experiments.
I was hoping to post some pics but I can't find where to do it. Can you help me?
Wow I am so sorry I have taken so long to respond. I have really busy. It is mostly self induced but busy none the less. I am usually in my greenhouse in the late afternoon or early evening. I live in Vancouver off of Padden Parkway. Are you in Portland?
Hi Anne, I would love to get together and see your system. I would love to show my system to whom ever is interested. I did research for about 6 months and then started building the greenhouse about 10 weeks ago and filled the fish tank three weeks ago with creek water expediting the cycling and establishing the bacteria substantially quicker.
That was nice seeing your Aquaponic setup Anne. BTW, what are your thoughts about the use of red worms to serve as a higher amount of protein value for the fish. Wouldnt that be an advantageous feeding-system for doing aquaponics year round? I am Eager to hear your suggestions. Hope your day Rocks :)
